First, I think they rearranged it so it has fewer shelves.

Second, their coffee prices seem to have doubled.

Anybody else notice this?

You sure you weren't there when they were rearranging?

You can't freeze onions.

Yes you can.

Just dice them first and vacuum seal out the air.

Green onions can be diced then frozen in a zip lock baggie with the air squeezed out.

So your money saving tip is for OP to buy a vacuum sealer?

Not PP, but if that is the money saving tip, it's not a bad one.

MAGA knows how to hunt and grow a garden. Democrats are dumb enough to pay $35 for pie fixings.

Every person I know that hunts and grows a garden votes blue. They are all smart people. I would guess vegetable gardeners and chicken owners tack hard blue and animal hunters (for food not trophy) probably evenly split. A lot of the core MAGA voters are bargain grocery shoppers., they are not growing their own vegetables and gathering eggs from back yard coops.

I’m not MAGA but I’ve never met a farmer that votes blue. You must be dreaming again.

Nah! TACO is a greedy bully. Hates the poors.

I've dropped some of my usual stores because of price hikes. I never go to Giant or Safeway anymore. They started charging convenience store prices. But overall my weekly grocery spend has remained stable as I switched around what I buy from where, without changing what's on the list.

I shop in bulk and I shop from Costco and from ethnic markets.

The fact that I can cook from scratch, I can cook many different cuisines, and I am familiar with many different kinds of ingredients allows me a lot of flexibility. My friends comment on the veggies I buy from ethnic stores because they have never seen or tasted it, let alone cook it.

Or squeeze the air out of a ziplock baggie.

Either one works. The key is to get the air out of the bag.

Anonymous wrote:Yup. 1000% OP.

This economy is a disaster.

I've been buying ingredients to make a pie for a Memorial Day cookout. I sh*t you not, I've spent over $35 to buy flour, butter, sugar, and the fruit going into it. INSANE.

SureOP, sure. Butter, flour and sugar will run you $15 max- all pantry staples. No fruit is in season except strawberries, and those are not costing you $20.

Butter: $8.50
Flour: $8.79
Sugar: $5.99
Berries: $7.50

Add tax. $35.

Go back to your expired food section in the lowest of the low store, Carol. I bet you buy flour with weevils in it, then brag about how thrifty of a shopper you are, lol.

Safeway:

Butter: $4.39 for a box
Flour: $3.49 for 5 lbs
Sugar $4.79 for 4 lbs
2 lbs strawberries: $3.99 (online Safeway coupon)

Total: $16.66

NP. People still clip coupons? Interesting, I used to do that as a young girl with my grandmother.

I gave up on coupons when I realized it's all the processed garbage food that has the coupons. It just wasn't worth it for me to check, clip, store and use them by the date for the "good" stuff as it's rare.

DP but Safeway electronic coupons don't need to be stored anywhere and they track your spending and give you discounts on what you actually buy, like produce and milk or half and half. Sure there are always coupons for Doritos but I don't tap on those - I save ~30% per trip on the things I was going to buy anyway (more when there's a holiday deal like a free turkey or rib roast for $5.99/lb).
