Honestly, UVa's small Lawn area is nice, but most of grounds frankly is ugly. Gilmer Hall and other 1970s buildings desperately need an invisibility cloak.

UVa's newer replacement dorms are not as hideous as the 1970s dorms they are replacing, but are just not that attractive overall.

Both VT and WM have much more consistent architecture than UVa. Part of the problem is that egotistical architects like to design "signature" buildings for UVa, most of which are hideous. The other part is UVa allowing these egotists to run wild.

DP. I do find either of those campuses beautiful. UVA just has the lawn area - the rest of the campus is mediocre at best. And W&M is so dull and “flat.” New dorms aren’t going to help that.

It is a 12 story building UVA didn't want approved overlooking a campus where the dorms usually top out at 6 storeys.

Where it’s situated, it does not look over the campus…at least not central grounds.

It is a private deveopment not on grounds.

You are correct. Main purpose though is for student housing.

GMU is kind of like a KIA. It will get you most of the places others will get you, but it isn't flashy, luxurious, or expensive.

First "Public" Masters degree; Why "Public" matters? New Degrees have to be approved by the State.

Also when Software Engineering Institute launched in Carnegie Mellon - they chose 3 other locations. GMU was one of them. Super Computing center at the Arlington Campus as well not all schools have them including the ones this thread directly compares to.

I think GMU definitely hits above its weight.

Wow - GMU beat UC Irvine and just a few notches shy of UC San Diego, U. Illinois Urbana, and VA Tech.

Proximity to DC probably helps that.

Well, San Diego isn't exactly in a lcol area. And people did say that GMU is better for internships and jobs, but some people on here keep saying that doesn't matter because internships are during the summer, and people get jobs from all over.

Like I said, GMU hits above their weight.

Because although GMU is a very good school in a state full of great and very good universities and is better than a number of states flagships (e.g. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Mississippi, etc.) it it simply not as good as VA’s flagships or premier STEM university and won’t be for a long time, if ever.

GMU and many other colleges were built to take most students, just not the elite. Virginia already has plenty of universities for those students.
