Drop Columbia out of top 10 due to several ongoing issues; move Brown above dartmouth

Drop Duke and Dartmouth, add Caltech and Cornell

Sounds like a blue collar neighborhood.

Yeah strange

I grew up in nova. I know a lot of Penn state alum. They all say “Penn State”. Everyone knows University of Pennsylvania is an Ivy and known as “Penn”

I wonder if Texas just carries weight because of demographics

Foreigners know California, Texas, and New York.

Penn or Penn State what is the big difference. It is not like one is a HYPSM.

The rest is irrelevant. Sure there are great schools in the “rest” category. But when the word os PRESTIGE, it is very simple as it has always been and as it will always be, no matter how many alums or moms around here want to scream UVA, DUKE, VANDY, NORTHWESTERN, CHICAGO….BLABLABLABLABLA

Yes, & if your girlfriend isn’t a supermodel who is also a neurosurgeon, you should refuse to be seen in public with her.

True.
But PP is correct. All it matters for Prestige is IVY +. Let’s stop the madness….

And whoever said nobody knows what Duke is, is 100% correct. My husband is a Duke undergrad and Cornell MBA. We lived in Europe for 15 years. Guess which school people that we worked with knew about? It wasn’t Duke….

Only in your mind is Cornell a big deal. Easiest one to get into.

Nobody said it is a big deal. Only you. You might like the fact that outside the US, Duke is an unknown and Cornell is ….known…..I dont care what you think. We experienced for 15 yrs with my husband having both schools in his resume.

Most people outside of the area couldn’t name one school in Virginia. Everyone knows Berkeley and their excellent reputation.

You could guess most states in the union by using "University of ________" insert State.

Well, Times Higher Education does publish its list of Top-50 universities in the world ranked by prestige/reputation. Granted, it's a prestige/reputation ranking as per a survey of those in academics, so more of an "Ivory Tower" survey vs. "people's choice" ranking.

Filtering on just the US, this is their top-10:
- Harvard University
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Stanford University
- University of California, Berkeley
- Princeton University
- Yale University
- California Institute of Technology
- University of California, Los Angeles
- University of Chicago
- Columbia University

It seems like HYPSM should be secure and not needing to dunk on anyone else. My experience is they don’t IRL.

Top non-Ivy schools trying to legitimize and bump up status so agenda is to dunk on non-HYP ivies.

Berkeley, UofM, UCLA, UVA, UNC want to overcome public label and be legitimized.

The amount of Emory, WashU, Wake level schools that are so insecure for no reason. They are great schools, I hate reading threads tearing each other down to be the best of that range.

And I’m sure a million more examples.
My sense it is the very top and then the schools outside of T75 that are quite content and secure with their positions, and the rest just come off so desperate.

21,24,...46?! Is not the same level. Get over it.

No dog in this fight (didn’t go to Wake and don’t know anyone else who has) but I think it will go up a lot now that they are likely to stop using race issues in the rankings.

If Luigi was giving last words on the electric chair it would be "It is UPenn not Penn State!"

Hopkins, outside of medicine, really seems to be a DCUM thing. Yes, Berkeley is great for research and PhDs, but I wouldn't assume their undergraduates are smarter or more competent than many other schools.
