It was beyond dumb. She's a highly intelligent and educated woman, witty and funny and that is her #1 quality, not her legs or her physical ability to do anything. It was a missed opportunity to be mentally strong and see her son grow up. Not to mention that people without legs can actually ride horses and do plenty in life. But she was also delirious and not thinking straight, and the Duttons, dummies that they are, didn't speak up to stop this foolishness. Or perhaps they are just so selfish and superficial they were grossed out by the idea of amputation and happier with her dead than than at the ranch needing accomodations.

Yeah I blame the Duttons too. At the end of life, your body and mind are shutting down as part of the dying process. Of course she was ready to just fall asleep in that bed. Shocking that Spencer didn't make even a half-hearted attempt to change her mind. I mean there are plenty of other opportunities to die on that ranch if life becomes too much later on!

I think the issue with these shows is it's all about Taylor Sheridan and how he sees the world: you have to be hot or badass to be worthy, and that is it. It's even a higher standard for women: a man can be disabled and live on (like Josef in first 1883) but as a woman? No. It's better to die a really stupid death and leave your child motherless than be an amputee. The contrast with Elizabeth was huge: here she was leading this hard life, actually enduring it, shooting a gun to save a man's life, but she wasn't badass enough therefore she wasn't worthy of existing in the Sheridan universe. I feel like he's a stunted, mean little man and it shows. Doubt he will ever grow up or at least set aside his ego and let better writers write his shows. This was his worst to date.

Cara feeding a premature infant on the feeezing cold porch was ridiculous. As well as telling Elizabeth she will find another man. But zero mention of Elizabeth’s baby.

Why did Spencer blame Whitfield for Alex's death? Admittedly, he got what he deserved but the one thing he could not be blamed for was her death.

He brought all this destruction though. Cara had to write to him to come home because of this “war.” If Spencer had never had to get home, he and Alex would be happily off in Europe together.

I think this was it. She didn’t want the surgery - it wasn’t the life she wanted to live. Which is so sad bc that baby now is motherless.
