We just returned from a trip to Europe. We were surprised that the Europeans preferred Trump over Biden as they think he is better set to stop the Ukraine war. We were really surprised at the number of Europeans that brought this topic up to us.
Not sure where you were but this was not our experience 2 weeks ago in Europe. Not one single person in the 3 countries we were in preferred Trump. They all despised him.
How do all of you end up engaged in these conversations? I’ve been in Europe during a Trump presidency, the Iraq war…and never once over many trips did I end up in one of these conversations.
Because I was on a private tours with local people for several days in different areas. And Trump always comes up. But yes you’re right, otherwise it probably wouldn’t come up.
I live in Europe and it does come up. They actually have real news here - not just Fox News - and they know what's going on. They despise Trump/Musk.
I had a lot of similar political conversations on my last two Europe trips, but I don’t agree that they were more informed. For example, our guide in Denmark brought up abortion rights and was shocked to learn that Democrats support open-ended abortion rights. European countries have 12/15/22 week limits and she didn’t understand why that would be considered controversial. So that is just one example where she had a bias against Republicans based on lack of knowledge.

Are you a tall male? I’m a petite female and Europeans constantly insult America and our leadership to me at any chance they get. This has happened to me for decades. It’s so aggressive that it comes across as being brainwashed. I can’t stand Trump but the TDS overseas is quite something. I remember being a teenager waiting in line to board a flight to CDG and having a random group of men start badmouthing Clinton to me.

Then why are they voting for far right governments? Do they hate Trump but like their homegrown bigots?
Pretty much. European far right parties are almost entirely focused on immigration. No one in Europe - not even Nazis - want Republican policies on healthcare, education, the environment, retirement, etc etc. The only similarity between the European far right and the Republican Party is that they are both supported by Russia.
