Nah because teachers can't catch up on grading if there's school. And apparently that day is around a Muslim holiday.
Ideal would be every Wed off so all can get a quick break during the week.
Don't try to cover all major religions' major holidays - if people are out they're out. It's winter break not x-mas break, same for spring break. Make spring break in late March- into early April regardless of when Easter is. And winter break should be two weeks regardless of what day Dec 25h falls.
In the 1980s, my middle school had a half day every Wed. Teachers had meetings and graded.
Most kids did something structured for the extra 3 hours. Sports, dance, skating at the roller rink.
This would be a great way for kids to do SSL hours or get tutoring from older students.

Why have days listed as makeup if they won't use them?
June 15th is listed as a makeup day. They are using that as the make-up day.
Why would MCPS list these 3 days as makeup days if they have NO intention of using them? Next year has January 26 (Monday), March 20 (Friday) and April 15 (Wednesday) marked as possible makeup days but is their any point? https://publisher.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/pdf/2025-2026%20Traditional%20and%20Innovative%20School%20Year%20Calendars.pdf
If those days weren't listed as makeup days I would have no complaint towards MCPS choice, only Maryland law forcing the makeup to invade what should be the 1st week of summer vacation.
Where is "the plan?"Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:That is the 4th makeup day after January 29 (tomorrow), March 31 (Monday) and June 6 (Friday). https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/calendar/FY2024/Traditional_Calendar_BoardAdopted_Table.pdfAnonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Dear God, just use June 6th as the make up day. That’s the first makeup day that has to be used according to the plan.

Yes, one half meaningless day that screws up childcare and summer plans for a large number of families, wastes teacher and administrator time and energy, and requires the entire county to spend on air conditioning and utilities to keep schools cool in the 3rd week of June. No common sense was used!
Not to mention fuel for buses.🚌
