In the 1980s, my middle school had a half day every Wed. Teachers had meetings and graded.

Most kids did something structured for the extra 3 hours. Sports, dance, skating at the roller rink.

This would be a great way for kids to do SSL hours or get tutoring from older students.

This probably wouldn’t meet legal requirements today for school time

June 15th is listed as a makeup day. They are using that as the make-up day.

Why would MCPS list these 3 days as makeup days if they have NO intention of using them? If those days weren't listed as makeup days I would have no complaint towards MCPS choice, only Maryland law forcing the makeup to invade what should be the 1st week of summer vacation.

They list then because they have a gambling addiction. MCPS decision makers don’t build in enough snow days and set makeup days for key religous holidays. Then they gamble on there being not enough snow to need to use those days for education.

We didn’t use the buses on the 3 snow days, so we’re not out extra money by running them on one makeup day. I don’t believe the air conditioning is off in schools all summer. Schools are rented out by summer camps and community organizations, the admin work there over the summer, some schools host in-person summer school. It won’t cost MCPS more money to be open on June 16th than it would have to be open on January 8th. MoCo will lose revenue because because they won’t be able to rent out space in schools to summer camps on June 16th.
