Link is no longer available.

Yes, they took it down either because (a) they were offended by my comment about how it read like a high school project or (b) they realized how stupid and impossible it was.

Or c) it was posted before it was fully approved.

If it is just a normal RIF:

Calculation

The employee receives one week's basic pay for each year of service up to 10 years

The employee receives two weeks' basic pay for each year of service beyond 10 years

The employee receives an age adjustment allowance of 2.5% for each full quarter of a year they are over 40 years old

The maximum amount of severance pay is one year's salary

But, Vivek said they want to offer up to 2 years. He said "very generous packages."

The State Department already put out guidance saying March 1st return to work, except folks with RWAs have until July 1. Also, appeals process for SBOs for RWAs means some people will get to keep them. Also, didn’t eliminate situational telework — explicitly acknowledged that it would remain. I really hope the existing guidance remains.

For example, suggesting that we just haven’t been showing up since Covid. First, my office has had some telework for more than 20 years so if we are getting rid of it entirely that’s really taking us back to the dark ages. Second, we’ve had pretty liberal telework since Covid but that’s because the office went through a whole analysis and concluded that’s what made sense and we were told we could telework. We weren’t awol. We were following instructions. So, fine, change the policy but don’t make it sound like we’ve been disobedient children.

Voight says he wants us to feel trauma and well I guess I am. I feel incredibly insulted after working hard for the govt for years.

The crazy thing is that in his testimony last week he praised the civil servants he worked with when he was last at OMB. I totally don’t get why he is making a statement like that on the one hand, and saying he wants to inflict trauma on civil servants on the other.

Yes. It is really sad. I am so sad. I have worked hard for 20 years and to be treated with such utter disrespect and vitriol is awful. We are emergency responders and step up during times of need so this is a really crappy feeling.

I feel the same way.

I’m honestly so sad. Not about RTO. I thought we might be back more even under Harris, but sad about the contempt and ignorance about government and its workers. Are there some duds? Absolutely. I haven’t had to deal with HR much but I understand it’s ridiculous. But I’ve dealt with 100s of agency staff on issues of substance and approx 60 percent are excellent, 20 percent good, 15 fair and maybe 5 percent I think are not good. People work weekends, long hours, on vacation…

Yes we put in long hours. During COVID the crew of us who were online until midnight after our kids went to bed. Coming in to work on holidays because we had briefs due. I've had over a decade straight of Outstanding ratings.

Yes this is truly demoralizing. In a punishable, harsh manner. I feel sick. I felt sick earlier about the DEIA stuff but was trying to find ways to find a silver lining with the RTO stuff knowing five days was coming but this memo just took the air out of me. It’s written in such a disgusting way implying that we’re lazy Feds and this BS about fairness to other workers as if equity is somehow their main concern?!? And now our jobs will become that much harder as a result of this overly restrictive memo. I feel powerless. There’s no one in our corner supporting us or pleading with the Admin that by doing this our work is now stymied. I know that’s what they want but do they really want the govt to be this inefficient? It’s horrible

I doubt any of us complaining on this board voted for him.

My employees complaining to me did.

No it wasn’t fine.

I think the quoted person is joking. At least I got a good chuckle. Yes the good ole days of paper, pencil, and telegrams.

Honestly, bring it on. Technology has made life more difficult. We won't need to bring our computers home anymore. We won't be expected to work while sick. Snow days will be spent playing with our kids. I'll come back to the office. I remember getting coffee with my colleagues, it was fun. I'm not going to snivel like a little b--ch, I am going to focus on the positive and then when I get fired, I'll move on to the next thing.

A huge portion of the government is retirement eligible. We're going to see a wave of retirements and it will start to impact businesses. Air traffic control is already dangerously low in staffing, so flights will quickly be affected. People submit applications for various licenses from the government, and not being able to get those licenses, not being able to export things, etc will eventually cost businesses money and they will report that to their representatives. Alternatively, we'll just have to eliminate many licensing requirements. I'm not entirely opposed to that, but certain things that affect public safety like airplane design certifications and inspections-- we probably need those.

Engineers who design and inspect US military equipment? I know someone who works remotely doing that.

They're going to cripple so many aspects of the US, but definitely hurt military readiness.
