Yes, there are tons of young South American kids in their 20’s working at the Vails resorts. We have been seeing them for the past 10 years that we’ve been going.

Winter and summer resorts rely on the summer work travel programs (BridgeUSA and H-2B Visa) to plug seasonal staffing gaps.

Disagree with avalanche risk not being managed. Heard a ton of explosives throughout the day and that’s why those trails at risk aren’t open. Bigger concern is not enough ski patrol to help hurt patrons.

More trails and lifts open but still long lines and packed slopes. Less than 1/2 of the resort open. New lift opened today - king con- and 45-60 min wait in the morning. Some took off slips/board and hikes back up a trail. Biggest issue is safety- since few black slopes open/groomed, advanced skiers zooming down blues and greens. Lots of talk about worries re safety patrol being able to get to hurt guests timely.

I go to Utah almost every year and have only done deer valley once. The lifts and runs are super short, and it’s pretty crowded. It’s “posh” but the skiing is better at almost any other mountain in the area. It also has the lowest elevation so it gets the least snow.

No. It gets more snow than PC usually because of how it is situated on the mountain.

DV is great if you’re an expert skier because all of the rich old people stay on the (admittedly spectacularly groomed) groomers so you get all the fun steep and deep stuff to yourself. I’ve never found it to be crowded, and really enjoyed taking my kid there when she was tiny because there was no reckless blindside snowboarder drama to worry about.

DV, Mad River, and Alta are the only 3 major resorts where snowboarding is not allowed.

Been that way for decades.

Absolutely true about lack of snowboarders. That is one terrible aspect of park city/the canyons - super crowded and overrun with reckless snowboarders. Skiing only is one of the main reasons I like Alta (second only to their snow totals.)

Maybe we just had bad conditions the time we tried DV (it was a terrible winter in park city and the conditions were not good, particularly near the bottom of the mountain.) My husband also had his rental skis swiped at the lodge during lunch by someone who had a similar name, and weather staff told us it happened a lot there. That never happened to us anywhere else, and we lost half a day of our 250 dollar lift tickets because the ski rental at our hotel (stein Erickson) wouldn’t give DH a loaner pair of skis while the others were unaccounted for. For a luxury resort, the overall experience was just meh. Maybe in great conditions it’s better. The 20 dollar bowl of turkey chili was excellent though!

I skied DV today and it was great. Night and day to PC. Lots of lifts and runs open and great skiing. But it is SO pricey.

Daily pass is sold out there this weekend.

If you go up to the window, you can buy a daily pass even if they are sold out online. That's what we did. They also sometimes offer afternoon only passes if you head to the window at noon. I called DV customer support and they told me all of this info over the phone so I didn't waste my time going over there.
