It's only February, but so far murders are up 100 percent over last year in DC. If MAGA prosecutors want to take a crack at rounding up and prosecuting violent men in DC, have at it. I can ignore the rest of the MAGA platform if they rid DC of the people that have been terrorizing DC for years. People are forgetting how safe DC used to be before Covid/BLM/restorative justice. I don't understand why Democrats in the DMV are so accepting of the massive spike in violence that has occurred in recent years. DC was so much safer in the Obama years. I don't see why we can't go back to that.

2025 homicides are up 33 percent compared to the same period last year: 28 vs 21. This is terrible, but 33 is not 100.

No one is accepting of the increase in violence. There are just disagreements on the best way to address it.

Yep. I have 2 friends who used to use metro in the past to commute, but when things started to get worse they are driving. One of them attempted to use the Metro with RTO and had been confronted by what you describe on the first day.. entitled teenagers acting “thuggy” trying to start a confrontation.

I don’t even know how to address this, it’s a culture that’s been created over the past few years that changed the behaviors. Exact same happened in NYC with mentally ill and thugs assaulting people and pushing them into subway tracks and down stairs for no reason. Now there is police on every platform.

Stop firing who? People who hadn’t done their jobs given how DC had been on a downward trajectory. We have a great transit system for a smaller city and people are afraid to take Metro. Ridership declines and together with fare evasion it becomes unsustainable and too expensive for people to use. Traffic gets worse as people have to RTO. Someone had been focusing on performative BS? Then they weren’t doing their jobs.

This. It’s time we make it look presentable to the world as our nation’s capital. No more people being afraid to take Metro to go to work or avoid going into the city altogether. Do something about tent compounds too, they are now permanent “housing” in the city and highways and bridges. Even in premium neighborhoods, there are intersections that had become permanent camp grounds.

Anyone objecting this should move to Portland and have at it. We don’t want Portland here and we already have Baltimore.

Silver lining of a Trump win is that rampant crime will finally be acknowledged as long as we can blame it on him.

Crime is so bad, CVS, Giant, Safeway, and other retails stores are leaving DC.

There’s a gang of criminals working out of the EEOB right now. From what I hear, most of them are 18-21 year old males led by a 53 year old South African ringleader. Those are the real crimes happening in DC.
