I understand that opinion but also parents can't control everything. It's hard to imagine what they are going through.
The captain of a ship is charged if the ship runs aground, even though the captain can’t control every action of every member of the crew. Parents are the captains of the family ship and they should be held responsible if a member of the family commits a heinous crime.
The family knows where she got the gun. And if not they know where she got the money. And if they don’t know either of these things, they are not paying nearly enough attention to their mentally child. Parents need to know where their children’s money is going for lots of reasons, not just guns. But a huge swath of parents really suck these days, even in “nice” neighborhoods.
So we should start charging parents for not paying attention to their kids? That's not going to work in many cases.
If their neglect causes violence or harm to others, absolutely. Drunk driver and street racer teens’ parents should be charged too. Your child is YOUR responsibility, especially if you are providing them guns and cars.
Agree, absolutely.
Or these ultra violent video games.
Most people know a kid who’s raging angry. Stop thinking it’s not your business. It is.
Can we make it our business by asking schools to expel these kids before they explode?
Yes, absolutely. This is a good time to review potentially violent students in all schools.
This white trash father encouraged his daughter's shooting and at least tolerated, but likely also encouraged her "courageous attitude" and psychological aberrations.
Social services and schools need to be more proactive in identifying such cases in advance.
Here: shooting fanatic deranged teenager with Columbine t-shirt? It's an obvious case.
Let's not make a bunch of assumptions about what he did or didn't do. But if everyone at the school saw her as a problem and there were warning signs, then they need to be held responsible too. Schools need to start kicking these kids out. This was a private school, it should have been easy. Public schools too need to be held accountable when it happens on their watch.

Have you ever met a teenager?
This strikes me as weird- an indication of not being in touch with reality. It’s one think to have a nickname that’s similar to your first name or perhaps use a middle name, but do insist on being called an entirely different name? No. I don’t know any teens that do this with the exception of those wanting to be someone else entirely.

A manifesto was found blaming the father. Something along the lines of his willful ignorance allowed her to obtain it. From what I saw this morning, heavy dislike of males as well.
Dad’s name is Jeff Rupnow. His FB cover photo shows his daughter shooting a gun at some sort of range. It’s sad to scroll back and see her as a little girl back when her life still had potential. And then she chose to harm others along the way and was given training and access to a gun.
FWIW his name and these photos are allllll over Twitter so I’m not sharing anything that isn’t mainstream.
Just looked him up. Not at all what I was expecting him to look like.
He certainly doesn't look like a "lib" (for those that are trying to politicize this tragedy).
Libs don’t take their daughters shooting. FFS.
They certainly don’t have it as their cover photo. If guns are your whole identity then you are certainly a Republican.
+1
Religion + guns = conservative

I'm the PP. That was my point.
Then why would anyone expect him to look like a “lib”?
Because Madison Wisconsin, of course.
+1
Madison is peak white liberal.
