YES they ARE that good, and they are certainly known entities from northeast corridor private schools, commonly ivy/uchicago/williams/amherst backups for students outside the top10% gpa with 1400-1500 range scores based on naviance. plenty ED if the counselors let them know ivies are too reachy

I don’t get all the Davidson hate on here. Someone seems to think that Davidson has been overhyped, and that people’s genuine expression of their kid’s happiness, academics, and results is false. What’s with that? If we were talking about Bowdoin, DCUM would be falling all over themselves to agree with the accolades. Also, the notion that Davidson kids are mostly Top25 rejects is impossible: 70% of the class is ED! Kids are literally choosing it as their first choice!

Davidson has remained Presbyterian affiliated only because its particular flavor (P-USA) has itself moved considerably to the left.


While I was a student at wake in the 90s, we still had to take a religion class as part of our core curriculum. That was pretty much the last vestige of that affiliation.

The most recognizable building on campus is the Chapel, and church services were held thereon Sundays. No requirement of students, though. For us, the chapel held events, like the nightline episode they shot there during my time and it has been the site of presidential debates, as well.

And wait until you find out who NESCAC schools Trinity and Wesleyan were named for.


Davidson has remained Presbyterian affiliated only because its particular flavor (P-USA) has itself moved considerably to the left.

My nephew is a freshman at Wake. I saw him over Thanksgiving and asked him what's been his biggest surprise there. His answer was "I'm surprised how many northerners are here. I knew there would be some but there are a LOT."
(He's from NC.)

The South is booming, which could explain the appeal of Wake and Davidson. Charlotte, Atlanta, Research Triangle area, Nashville, etc.
