I agree with the two previous posters.
Children also need to learn to relate to people unlike them and many jobs that teens commonly do help them do that.
We do not intend to fund everything for our DD and a job will help her learn to manage her money accordingly, a key life lesson.
I simply see focusing on volunteering especially when younger and getting a summer job when 16 or so as what we should do to raise a well-rounded kid who can think beyond herself, displays some work ethic toward tasks she may not always enjoy, and will be able to manage whatever funds she may.
