Subject: Goal as a parent for DC to never work non-prof jobs?
I agree with the two previous posters.
Children also need to learn to relate to people unlike them and many jobs that teens commonly do help them do that.
We do not intend to fund everything for our DD and a job will help her learn to manage her money accordingly, a key life lesson.
I simply see focusing on volunteering especially when younger and getting a summer job when 16 or so as what we should do to raise a well-rounded kid who can think beyond herself, displays some work ethic toward tasks she may not always enjoy, and will be able to manage whatever funds she may.

Left leaning here. Totally agree with you, conservative at 9:58.
This is one of those things that many of us can agree on, which is great!
My DS14 has a real thing for a particular fashion brand. He is getting a job there to purchase his own “extra” clothing, with a discount. Nothing wrong with that.
We are high SES and well educated. I can’t imagine being foolish enough to think it was cool to fail to instill a good work ethic and a true sense of the value of a dollar.
