The vacation place I hated everyone else loved was Aruba. IMHO too western, commercial, generic, and windy.
/ love europe and the carib overall just not those spots
I'm with you sister. Aruba is a hot he1l hole with crazy big goats and no grass.

Outside the main strip, the neighborhood was very poor and gave off menacing vibes. Seemed like they don’t like Americans. Which given the drunken idiots that visit, I don’t blame them, but nothing about the place appealed to me.
The area surrounding Asheville was awesome as was the neighborhoods along the river. The core downtown was full of drug addicts.
Don't feel bad hating TJ. Mexicans and most border residents also hate TJ. I grew up near the border and would never go to TJ. Most Mexicans view the border area the way Americans see Alabama or Mississippi. No one actually goes there unless you're from there bc poverty and crime.

Huh? This makes no sense. I never thought that about PR and have lived in numerous LATAM countries and speak Spanish.
No it's actually perfect metaphor. It's easy and dependable but it's just...not as nice as you actually want.
I think that's my confusion. As a Latina, I don't know anyone who thinks Taco Bell is easy and dependable. admittedly, I don't know anyone who eats there.
Oddly, I do think PR has a big impact in latino culture for a tiny island nation. I guess if you're just there for a weekend and don't know any locals or language, it may not be as fun as Cancun, eg.
I'm wondering what you found nice in LATAM, though. And if you say Costa Rica, I'll have my answer to all this.

I loved Seoul and Jeju, though, if anyone is thinking of heading to Asia.
(Also had a great two days in Tokyo and wish we'd had more time there.)
