It is actually the opposite. If you live in Vienna, you don't have to deal with the traffic on Maple Avenue. You can cut through the neighborhoods or walk where you need to go. Sorry you missed out on living in such a wonderful town.

You don't have to deal with it once you are home and then just going out locally. But getting home after work...oy....

Especially when in DC they can only build up to the street width which is at max. about 100. Compare that to Arlington and even Tysons where the new heights are up to 300'. Doesn't make much sense to me. I'd rather still be considered a suburb in Vienna.

DC-proper is so 1990's and 2000s. So many companies and government agencies are setting up shop in NOVA that we no longer consider "DC" to be geographic Washington DC.

You are right - why live like a local when you can live in "the District" among white transplants from Okeedokee nowhere U.S.A. but who live downtown for the "walkability" and "culture" they get from other like-minded white transplants.

I thought this would be an issue before we moved here, but it's actually the opposite. Since, we moved here I hardly ever travel down Maple. There is just no reason to, if there is a store I need to get to on the main road, then I take side streets until I come out to where I need to be. It's not out of the way since I'm already in the neighborhood, for example I just go left instead of straight to Maple.

I also walk to where I need to go a lot so again, not hitting any traffic issues. I used to technically be able to walk places before moving here (distance wise) but never did because the roads just made walking a pain and didn't feel "walkable", here there are plenty of sidewalks, plenty of other people biking and walking around that I don't feel out of place or strange for walking home with grocery bags.

I know it sounds cheesy but it truly is wonderful place to live and we're lucky to have a place like this in NoVa.

If you live in vienna, you learn the work-arounds quickly.

Agree with 14:14. Have you driven through Falls Church city recently? McMansions galore...

I live in Vienna and am very happy, but Falls Church is a pretty nice area too. There are so few town centers within Fairfax County. Lets not put one against the other.

Vienna is great, it has all the benefits without feeling crammed together. It's not ugly and McMansionized like Falls Church city became. There''s a real community feel.
