Oh and I work until 530p typically.

When I worked in a large national newsroom there was a daily 8a meeting. I attended some times (when required or asked) but I also ended my day at 4p when I did.

For me, 8am meetings are almost daily. But I'm in healthcare so 8am is a very normal time of day for things to get going. Occasionally we have 7am or 7:30, but the expectation is that your schedule is available at 8am. Yes, when the kids were young, we paid for morning and after care.

We always had an 8am meeting downtown in DC. It was a jerk move. So many of us were delayed by commuter buses or train problems. I personally didn’t have an earlier bus I could catch.

I don't really need to be there and the reason it's at 6:30 a.m. is because that's when many people at the company meet, since many of them are on the east coast.

Does your day end at 3PM? If so, then I would say this is reasonable. If it ends at 5:30 then you need to have a talk with your manager about a more reasonable meeting schedule.

5:30 and no I didn’t agree to these hours when I joined

Will this change with the 6:30 am meeting addition to your work schedule? Also do you Zoom from home or the office?

Zoom, which is why they're making the argument it's OK. They said I should just go back to sleep after lol.

Agree you need to meet with your manager to adjust these expectations.

I have been on projects where the day started at 7am but I was off by 4. DoD/IC.

My team has about 7 people on it and the only time we do this is when we all agree that it's a common time that works for all of us. Usually it's some kind of trade off like not having to stay late, or it means ending early on a Friday.

Lol. I have never had a job that starts later than 7:30. 8am sounds fine to me. Of course you have to pay for childcare like the rest of us. I drop mine off at 7am.

At least you don't have an all hands at 5pm on every holiday weekend like we do!

As a manager I never do this but I have a client at the moment who does. Even worse, they'll schedule the meeting same day so I'm getting invites to meet at 8am at 7am. It's driving me nuts. I'm barely awake and starting the day in a tizzy.

I could do it every once in a while, but not with regularity. I have two young kids and a spouse that travels. I don't live in an area that offers before school care.

You need to have a discussion with your new manager. Those hours are not conducive to a work-life balance.
