I 'forget' to scan about $10 worth of stuff each time I use the self scan. If they force me to do their labor, I'm getting paid.

So, no, this isn't a thing.

I was at Harris Teeter recently. One of my items didn’t ring up correctly and a clerk came over and pulled up footage of my entire transaction. I would never steal regardless but seeing the video cemented how easily one could be caught. It’s not worth the risk. Getting caught would be humiliating even if the store didn’t prosecute.

Also, shoplifting raises the prices for everyone, which sucks. So don’t be that person.

That's a serious character flaw. He has bad morals. I would end a relationship over this.

Yes, it’s a thrill but also it’s a good chunk of change if it’s 25% of his groceries every time. That adds up fairly quickly. Agree that OP should stay away from him for sure.

He would likely say he's not getting any thrill but he is. It's the tiny, cumulative thrill of knowing he can get away with things, which confirms over and over that He Is Special. This is the kind of thinking that holds the rest of the world in contempt and considers other people dumb because they don't steal groceries. And he surely cheats, lies and steals in other aspects of life and work. He'll say it's all small stuff and harms no one at all, but the total lesson is: He thinks he's better than others, and rules don't apply to him, and rules are stupid anyway. Run, OP, run.

I did this exactly once and it was an accident -- I forgot to ring up something under the cart. I got to the car, realized my mistake, turned around, and paid for the item with apologies.

Because I'm not a sociopathic asswhipe.
