Or they might have a preference higher than sibling. One thing to note, poster ranked #3, is that other people can jump ahead of you if they have a higher preference. So depending on your situation, you might see your number go to 4, 5, etc.

First time doing the lottery after just moving to DC...

Applying to PK3, and we're inbounds for Ludlow-Taylor, where we are waitlisted #10 (and with so bad waitlist number for other schools that they're all irrelevant)

In 21-22, 4 offers were made by June and 9 by October
In 22-23, 6 offers were made by June and 11 by October
In 23-24, 0 offers were made by June and 14 by October,

So based on that, there seems to be a fairly good chance that we will get a spot sometime during the fall/winter, is that right? (i.e., in the previous two years we would have gotten a spot by October, and just missed out in 21-22?).

You got an offer for Marie Reed dual language? Take it. That school is awesome (have friends there who switched from another dual language program and have been thrilled, also the school has a great swimming program which is a wonderful bonus).

I’ve heard good things, but didn’t know about the swimming. That’s great. Stokes has been #1 on our list for the past four years, although I’m not sure if we could get in at 1st grade even being second on the waitlist.

My impression is that Marie Reed is better than Stokes anyway, so things may have turned out for the best for you.

In the past year a lot of Spanish dominant children have arrived in DC.

No, they weighted teacher recommendations heavily this year. So if your kid had a 3.7 or higher, whether or not they got an interview was heavily determined by teacher recs. Which is a change and was not really clear to anyone (teachers, parents, or kids) until WAY late in the process - when lots and lots and lots of kids with perfect grades did not get selected to interview.

Younger sibling (will be PK4) is #11 at Walls. Not sure how much weight to apply to this…

if you accept an enrollment, do you retain your waitlist number at schools you ranked higher?
