My recs are The Wedding Date, 10 Things I Hate About You, Love & Basketball, Dirty Dancing, Moonstruck, Say Anything, Princess Bride (random assortment).
For an oldie but goodie, The Way We Were (sigh!).

I LOVE this movie. however if you are thinking about seeing it with your teen daughter or son be aware the first scene is a very explicit oral sex scene. Which is a bummer because I am dying to watch this with my 15 year old son but not sure we can get past that first scene....

I agree with you and was thinking that about a lot of movies mentioned here.
But Say Anything? It’s my favorite rom com of all time. It’s also tagged as a romantic comedy (rom com) everywhere. It just happens to be an actual good one and not lame and formulaic.
Conversely, princess bride is action/adventure; The Birdcage is comedy/thriller; and 500 Days of Summer is a rom-com drama. (Some places call say anything a rom-com drama too, so I guess it’s debatable, but you could also say a rom-com drama is still a rom-com.)
I'd agree with this. Rom Com done well is not Hallmark.
