To the contrary.. That’s not what I meant at all. I just think it was disrespectful to mock his daughters for their girly interests and say he prefers and relates more with his son over them . Could be why one of his daughters is trying to be a boy. I don’t find him very masculine at all. He often looks like he’s wearing makeup and he’s kind of soft. He’s very Hollywood. Yeah, he’s into drinking and gambling like some Rat Pack throwback.

Interesting. Jenn G always seemed pretty girly. He did not seem happy as a family man. He was with that young actress, Ana De Armas, for a while and seemed miserable then too! They made a movie together (Deep Water) that I’ve tried to watch a couple of times and it’s just too awful. When they broke up, a life size cardboard likeness of her was in his trash. Kevin Costner was at Taylor Swift with his daughter and said nice things on Instagram. So many parents will go along with things their kids like to be, well, parental. He does seem stuck in his 20s, and like a big whiny baby besides looking hungover, angry or depressed.

Having different interests and different temperaments doesn't mean a marriage won't work. But trying to shoehorn your partner to fit into your version of the world is a recipe for discord. Ben is a spoiled, adolescent with addiction issues. Jen is desperate to have it all including the doting sucessful man who wants nothing more than to treat his best girl like a queen. And she wants the receipts to show to the world.

She would have been better off finding someone healthy and happy who was successful, but not a recognizable celebrity.

I think her life has the chaos of someone with an addiction. (Among other things, like a character disorder). The question is to what is she addicted. Sex? "Love?" Fame? Her addiction is fame. She’s always been on a long journey for fame. That’s why against her movie agents advice she decided to get a record deal knowing she can’t sing . This is unheard of for an actress but not J Lo. Just like how she went from In Living Color backup dancer and a Janet Jackson background dancer to acting. Jumping from dancing to acting is also unheard of. Hollywood was too small for J Lo. She needed the music fame as that’s more instant and worldwide. She saw the Selena fanbase and how being a Latin popstar/ singer would make her more famous and more of a household name than being an actress would . Despite advice about how this would negatively affect her promising movie career , she still went ahead. She thought wearing risque red carpet statement dresses would make her a fashion icon and raise her public profile and so she did that (Grammy dress).

She is right about all of these things raising public fascination with her. The short term marriages and relationships also help build her fame. If her relationship with Ben meant anything to her, she would’ve kept their private lives private instead of doing a three part documentary,movie, and album and interview after interview about him. Her work is secondary to her persona .

All true but don't let Ben off the hook. He dove into the relationship with JLo super fast and made no effort to acclimate his kids to consider how their families would blend. Violet didn't attend their wedding, her choice. It was reportedly out of loyalty to her mom but that doesn't really make sense to me because I have a hard time believing that Garner asked her not to go, and because Garner and Affleck had been split for almost 4 years at that point. I think Violet didn't go because she didn't want to and didn't support the relationship, which is understandable as she had no real opportunity to get used to it and it was very forced on her.

One thing I'll say is that it's kind of crazy to me that Jennifer Garner married and had multiple kids with Affleck. She seems so aggressively grounded and normal and he is extremely not, and it just seems strange for Garner to have to co-parent with him and for their seemingly normal kids to have to deal with him and with this whole relationship plus all the craziness on her side with multiple ex-husbands and everything her kids have been through. I have to assume Garner thought Ben would settle down and then, uh, he didn't.

I like Jennifer garner, but she was definitely a bit of a striver in her twenties and early thirties. She was married to Scott foley, then she got famous on alias and they got divorced. Wasn’t she engaged to her costar on that show, Michael varten? I think the rumor was that she then left Michael varten for Ben.

I’m sure Ben was incredibly charming when he came into Jennifer garners orbit. She has said that when his attention is on you, you feel like the only girl in the world, and then he turns and it’s incredibly isolating. Ben suffers with addiction and some form of mental illness. My guess is that he was charming, an a-lister, she was in her thirties and too good an opportunity to pass up. It didn’t work out, like most Hollywood marriages.

The difference is that Jlo also has her own mental issues. She is a narcissist and unstable romantically. Jennifer garners kids are lucky to have a stable mom.

I like Garner too, but what you say is also true. Let's also remember they dated under a year and got married because she was pregnant...
