- The person in the window seat gets to control the window shade. I always try to book the window seat because I want that window shade open the whole time (even when I am watching a movie on my screen).
- The person in the middle seat gets to use both arm rests.
- People should correctly rotate their carry-ons to the side in the newer planes' overhead bins.
- I am allowed to recline my seat (the whole 1.5 inches) after take-off.
Whew. I am so glad that I shared that with all of you.

+1
Yep. I like the shade up during the day as well, but I value easy access to the bathroom more, so I book the aisle and deal with the fact that the window seat passenger determines the status of the shade. And of course, the hapless middle seat passenger gets both armrests.

But otherwise, the window belongs to everyone in the row. I've had this happen so many times recently and you don't even know when you're landing. It's soooooooo selfish!

I actually surmised there may be a study to cut down on possible disturbances by inducing sleepiness - and asked the flight attendant. She said there’s no directive, it’s what people do or don’t. That was Lufthansa. She suggested to ask the United flight attendants.
I hate it because I’m totally tired when I arrive after spending hours in the dark during the day and arriving during daytime.
