Anonymous wrote:Of course I have empathy for him. He’s clearly in a bad state with severe, untreated mental illness + drug addiction. But with those things he’s not safe to be on the street and we (the general public) aren’t safe with him being on the street. He also committed a crime, and it doesn’t matter if you’re out of your mind on drugs or alcohol or off your meds when you commit a crime - there are legal consequences including jail/prison time. After his sentence he should, IDEALLY, be committed for a period of time. But we don’t have the facilities for that … so he’ll probably serve 6 months or whatever for assault and then be back on the streets like nothing ever happened.

Here you go:

That’s not a GFM to pay for the specific teachers involved to pay medical bills. That is a GFM where the money goes directly to the director of PS who apparently will then split it evenly among all PS staff. It discloses that in the description.
My toddler goes to PS Bloomingdale and was present for the attack. Two teachers went to the hospital, but others were sexually assaulted by this individual as well. All of the teachers are understandably traumatized, and as a parent of one of these kids (he seems to be ok, thankfully) I can't express how grateful I am to these caregivers.
Also, for other commenters in this thread: Parker's office has been incredibly responsive and facilitated a ton of help for the parents. I think he would probably re-word his initial statement given the chance, but that was posted very soon after incident. He issued a follow-up statement later that clarified his office is working to ensure this guy is charged and not immediately released, which may very well have happened if he hadn't gotten involved and brought a lot of press attention.
Thank you for this info! I'm also in Zachary Parkers ward and I have to say I think he is really trying. Very glad that his efforts may help to ensure that Russell stays locked up somehow.

He can’t help himself because he is mentally ill. You have no empathy? His neighbors didn’t press charges because they were good human beings who didn’t want to see another Black man locked up or possibly killed.
We need to discuss mental health support above all else or this problem will not get better.
Frankly, i can't believe people like you think he's living a good, safe life on the streets. Speaking of vulnerable to being harmed by others. .. where's your compassion and empathy? He needs to be hospitalized or live in some kind of supportive group home with close supervision and someone to ensure he takes necessary meds. He is a danger to himself and others.
