Sure, police response needs to be fair and legal, but it is incredibly clear that some leaders do not want to do ANYTHING at all to curb crime other than whine at every proposed solution while offering no alternatives.
Sure, social determinants of crime matter, but that's a LONG term solution and addressing that shouldn't also shouldn't mean you stay silent about the need to ALSO hold violent criminals accountable, prosecute them, and keep them in jail, and figure out how to curb the current crisis (and YES, it's a crisis!).
+1
Our elected officials get much angrier about crime legislation than actual crimes.

I was just reading a tweet from councilman Zachary Parker. Apparently today, in Bloomingdale, two teachers walking with a group of toddlers were attacked at 2nd and S Streets NW. One is now hospitalized; thank God some bystanders stepped in to help.
Surprise, surprise: the assailant was “well known” in the community. Fear not, as the Councilman assures us they are looking into “support services” for him.
If you voted Democrat, you voted for this, yes you did. Elections have consequences and the city is no longer safe because of the voters. Stop voting for the same politicians and council members and expecting something different. Or just move, because these people will NEVER see the truth, you have to see the world that you live in and not the one you hope for, and vote accordingly. I do not give two f s what letter is next to your name, if you are tough on criminals you have my vote.
I don’t think I’ve ever voted for a Democrat in my life.
DC is what like 95% Democratic in voting? That's what made this happen, just accept it.
+100. There are literally zero republicans to blame in DC govt for this mess. Not since Catanya and Swartz left the council at least a decade or more ago. This is an entirely democrat manufactured problem.
Completely agree although to be fair, some dems are much worse than others.
I miss Mary Cheh already. Frumin, this far, is a major disappointment
Frumin was always going to be a disappointment. So was JLG. I cannot believe people fell for it. You can go back to threads from 2020 and 2022 which had plenty of people insisting that neither of them were going to take crime seriously and we'd end up worse off. And here we are! People keep complaining about the council but it's the absolutely idiotic voters of this city that got us here.

Clearly those vicious elementary school teachers must have provoked the poor assailant. How dare they just walk around with their kindergarten class in broad daylight! Thank god the councilman is looking into additional free money and support for the poor violent criminal. I also hope those evil teachers are placed on administrative leave pending a thorough investigation as well as much-needed sensitivity training.

Impeach Bowser. Impeach the council. Impeach Biden. Impeach Trump. Impeach crime. Impeach God.

In almost every state , there is a 2 yr time limit for welfare benefits. DC doesn’t have this limit by choice.
