Today I read an article that showed this dead-eyed kangaroo, standing over a dog he was drowning for fun, looking like a psychopathic, roided-out mutant rabbit. No one is talking about this. On the contrary, we tell our kids that kangaroos are adorable and have cute baby pouches. What's with the kangaroo lobby selling us cute cartoons while our allies down under live in terror of these beasts? I can't be the only American to have undergone this slow and shocking realization that everything I'd been told about kangaroos is a lie.

Truth - but to be fair, this Aussie is also very fond of American wildlife … even those rascally raccoons that get into our trash ….
In Australia - one domestic cat kills on average about 186 mammals, birds, reptiles and frogs a year, compared to the 748 that one feral cat can kill. However, because domestic cats are concentrated in suburbs, the total number of animals they kill per hectare is higher than the number that feral cats in the bush kill.
That said - I love cats and don’t like this war on Aussie cats - I wish they would just neuter them and put bells on them to give birds fair warning
Bells don't work--cats learn to walk without jingling them

I think someone was pulling your leg about watching out for roos while hiking.

More kanga propaganda-- so pervasive it should probably be given its own portmanteau of kangaganda. This cartoon shows a sweet and dopey baby roo effortlessly resisting the cat's provocations.
This isn't what we're talking about. I'm talking about these kangaroos in the news-- these vacant eyed, muscle bound predators, on a thrill kill murder spree. Totally different.
