Especially if non-Ivy, Stanford, or Duke, Chicago.
Ivy really gives you a leg up whether that Ivy is 11 or 13. Ivy is Ivy.
People who claim not to care are those (1) who didn't go to one, (2) whose kids can't get in, (3) don't want to pay for private colleges (or can't afford to).
Ivy is Ivy. The world is an arms race.
Most kids going to Ivy schools with get a graduate/professional degree. That additional degree is the one that "matters" in the "arms race" and the Ivy degree will be largely forgotten.

HYPSM, yes. Duke and Wharton, too. Not Columbia. Asians have always seen it Columbia as a fake, a backup school for stidents who couldn't get into actual elite schools. They are even more skeptical now that Columbia has been caught faking all its numbers.
Which Asian group do you belong? I know Korean, Chinese, and Japanese communities treate Columbia just below HYP, above Penn, absolutely above Duke.
There is no one who is picking duke over Columbia unless it's for basketball.
You couldn’t pay me enough for me to send my kids to Columbia these days.

I agree. I would definitely choose Duke over Columbia these days.
And I suspect a majority of 18 years would make the same choice today. Columbia has always seemed like a stressful place that catered to a small group of students that really wanted to live in NY City. But after the past couple of years, I think the pool of students that want to go to Columbia has shrunk dramatically. No 18 year old wants all the noise and stress and the constant feeling of walking on eggshells that comes with the Columbia experience today. Duke seems infinitely more appealing to the vast majority of smart kids.
it’s like the same idiot duke booster posting same as 3 different identities.
go to any elite private (andover, exeter, st. albans etc). ALL send far more to columbia than duke for a reason.
Duke’s yield (even with DI scholarships and random scholarships like carolina scholars) is shit compared to Columbia and will remain so

What 18 year old associate college in New York as shrill, sounds like personal experience, not actual analysis.

No student cares about any of the things you are talking about.
“Walking on eggshells” translates to not being a d*** and just being expressive about social causes-which students these days dont and won’t shut up about. Speculations on things we know to be false (less students interested in Columbia) is a waste of time for everyone involved.
And most 18 year olds would still choose Duke. Few want the shrillness of Columbia. But good news. The Oberlin kids now have another school to go to.
