I was thinking same and just went to look at boundary map. It's easy to visualize how some Nottingham kids could end up at Jamestown.
More likely a bunch of Discovery kids end up at Jamestown and Taylor. I think Tuckahoe is left pretty intact (probably picks up the 2 straggling PUs currently bused to Nottingham) and Discovery picks up most of the Notties. They'll be reunited with the former Notties.
APS says in pre-CIP that Nottingham will go to Tuckahoe and Discovery, except for pre-K which ends up at Taylor. More than just 2 planning units end up at Tuckahoe based on the numbers they state, and then to prevent that school from being even more overcrowded, existing Tuckahoe kids end up elsewhere. And when Nottingham kids end up at Discovery, Discovery end up at Jamestown and Taylor. The whole point is everyone gets scrambled when Nottingham closes.
Cardinal can’t take any more kids. Tuckahoe kids are not going there. They’re not going to mess with cardinal which would have massive ripple effects as all the schools in the middle of the county where they would then send Cardinal kids (Ashlawn/Glebe) are beyond full.
I think most of Nottingham goes to Discovery and a good chunk of Discovery goes to Taylor or Jamestown.
All the boundaries in NA will be redrawn in 2026. It doesn’t matter that you think they won’t mess with your school: they will.
Dumb
Yep. Closing a school has consequences beyond just that school.
Yes they will start messing with fully enrolled schools when there are plenty of under enrolled ones to choose from just because. That’s what will happen.
Yes they will. Because the under enrolled schools aren't all conveniently next to each other.
What are you talking about. They are. Its easy to shift Discovery kids to Jamestown and Taylor to make room for Nottingham kids.
You might want to look at the Tuckahoe walkzone - Plenty of Nottingham students are going to Tuckahoe which can't take anymore trailers.
You people are so new here.
The walk zones don’t matter.

So Discovery and Cardinal will stay at 96% capacity while Tuckahoe goes to 120% - 130%+? APS will have to move some students out of Cardinal to make room for the Tuckahoe planning units...."Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya..."
Who is this hard. They will shift kids to Jamestown and Taylor from Discovery to make room for kids there. There is plenty of room for the kids from Nottingham without impacting Cardinal. Someone several pages ago showed you the math.
You might want to review the Expanded Walkzones. I seem to recall there are Tuckahoe planning units in the Cardinal Walkzone. Those could easily be sent to Cardinal pushing out places like Madison Manor - who is already on a bus and don't need to go to Cardinal.

That’s really the question, isn’t it? APS says there are fewer births in VA so there will be fewer students. Common sense says Boomers are cashing out of APS in droves, properties are being redeveloped, and people are moving in with 2-3 kids because of the schools. FCCPS is a much smaller district and got caught completely unawares of enrollment growth this year. If you plan for 95%-100% capacity you can’t accommodate anything that isn’t dictated by birth data from 5 years ago limited to people who lived in APS at the time.
LOL. No one is moving here because of the schools.
Reality check. A lot of people still leave ACPS to come here prior to K.
And DCPS. A ton leave DCPS after free pre-K.
Yes, I’m sure someone who’s concerned about free pre-k has the means to purchase a home in NA.
Why wouldn’t you take advantage of free quality pre-k and then move? Wealthier people like free things just as much as the next person.
That’s the thing. DC’s free pre-k isn’t great. There are many quality *private* pre-k options in DC, all of which you pay for.
Again, you have no idea what you are talking about.
