My child goes there and has never experienced anything remotely like that. About a third of the kids we know locally attending Wake are black, I know this is not representative of Wake as a whole but we are from Baltimore. They like the school and none are transferring. My own child is extremely liberal and loves Wake.

20 year ago yea, but Winston Salem has improved significantly over the past 10 years.

That’s fair - I graduated in the late 90s. Haven’t been back much since then. I have a couple friends whose kids have attended or are attending. I do understand things change. The campus and student body have grown. Times change. But I still doubt many choose it for the city more than the campus itself.

I agree with that, the campus is beautiful. But today’s undergrads chose to spend more time in downtown Winston than undergrads in the past did.
