Some in the media and those inside dcum do a disservice by omitting the race of a subject in a county that hasn't had a majority race for over 10 years. The Moco policy is destroying it from within.
Yesterday, I (white female) went to a big-box store. I said hello to the greeter (Asian-American male). I found one thing I was looking for, but I had to ask an employee (Black male) for help finding the other thing. Then I went to the checkout, where the cashier (? male) rang up my purchases. Once out of the store, I texted my partner (white male), who said we already had the first thing, so I went back inside, and the person at the return desk (white female) refunded my money.
That extra demographic information adds to much to the story, don't you think?
I celebrate diversity and its not worth mentioning during the normal course of ones day. However crime is a different matfer and race does play a rule in it. The wokeness of ignoring it is the problem and will always call it out when I see it.
Why is crime a different matfer? How does race play a rule in it? Please do explain how the police news release did a disservice to the residents of Montgomery County by not immediately labeling the race/ethnicity of the man the police had just killed.

Newly elected councilwoman Stewart is a severe disappointment. I expected closer attention to the needs of constituents but you can't even get a response from her office. Won't be voting for her again.
I can't imagine why Councilmember Stewart isn't concerning herself with the issues around Catholic University?

The race of the suspect has not been reported, as far as I'm aware. Can you provide a source for that bit of information? A neighbor got a photo of the guy from the back. It's in this news story:

DP
But that neighborhood (including the streets named, eg, Colie and Havard) is 100% Latino.
It is not. That Census tract (34.01) was 56% Hispanic in the 2020 Census.
Go drive down those streets. They are relatively small streets. That neighborhood is latino.
Perhaps the census tracks owners/landlords rather than renters?
And the census tract goes beyond those streets and immediate adjacent streets.
I know the area very well.

2020 census? Probably a bit out of date.
The local elementary school is nearly 80% Latino. The rest are black and Asian—mostly immigrants. The neighborhood will continue to fill with Latinos…just like the neighborhood on the other side of CT Ave that feeds into Weller Road Elementary.

No. The Census counts residents. The boundaries of the Census tract are Veirs Mill Road, the stream valley, and Connecticut Avenue.
1,559 housing units, of which 1,520 were occupied.
5,871 people total.
3,312 Hispanic, 837 non-Hispanic white, 559 non-Hispanic black, 934 non-Hispanic Asian/Pacific Islander, 229 non-Hispanic other.
Also, even with the Hispanic population likely younger than the non-Hispanic population, the demographics for Sargent Shriver ES in 2022-2023 were: 78.6% Hispanic, 11.3% non-Hispanic Black/African-American, 5.7% non-Hispanic Asian-American, and less than 5% everyone else.
So, lots of people who are Latino? Yes. 100%? Nowhere near.
Maybe driving down those streets doesn't give you as good an understanding of the area as you thought?

Which I personally don't care about, but if it is Black on Latino crime, THAT is going to exacerbate community tensions.

He could be black or Hispanic. Lots of Hispanics wear their hair like that and from the picture it’s hard to tell the skin color.
He could be black AND Hispanic. Just saying.

Doesn’t matter what he is. The world is better off without him in it. Well done, MCPD.
Says the keyboard warrior.
How am I a keyboard warrior by congratulating the police on a job well done, and getting someone violent off the streets?
You are congratulating the police for killing a person. Most likely, the police officer who did the killing would have preferred to have a day at work that did not involve killing someone. But here's you, saying rah rah from behind a screen.
He was doing his job. Sorry you don’t understand that. I will congratulate anyone who not only does their job, but does it well.
You are congratulating the police officer (whose gender was not specified in the police news release) for something that, for all you know, the police officer does not want to be congratulated for.
Right. A police officer doesn’t want to be congratulated for doing what he was trained to do. Totes makes sense![]()
With friends like you, MCPD doesn't need enemies.
