This seems like an incredibly disruptive plan that affects so many schools and increases some of their crowding to address overcrowding at KG that could easily be handled by moving the immersion program elsewhere.

How about we eliminate the wasteful, expensive language immersion programs and use that money to make sure all the kids can speak and read English instead?

Also: if you're going to teach elementary school kids a language, Japanese and French are about the two most useless ones I can think of.

It’s fine to leave it where it is, thanks. Franklin Sherman is not overcrowded so no need to rezone the area, and we’d also rather stay at our current MS/HS.

A TON of kids use the bike path every day. The only time I would say parents opt to drive is when it is raining or freezing out. We live in the neighborhood and my kids exclusively walk to and from school.

I do think it's a reasonable plan. it doesn't move the walkers. I think operational concerns like buses play a huge role.

I think bus issues are a short-term issue that can be addressed much more quickly and cheaply than building additional facility capacity, so while a concern/factor, not a primary one over long-term planning.

I also know a couple families in the “walk zone” across Pimmit Run from the school and they admit few of them actually walk. Most drive and drop off, so I don’t think that should be a major consideration.

I live in that neighborhood and you are mistaken. Many kids walk or bike to school. The trail was recently paved which is a huge improvement.

Exactly, if anything they should be shifting even more students to Chesterbrook which is projected at 86% capacity in 5 years and presumably continuing to drop off from there as it's on a long-term downward trend in enrollment (and that's even taking into account the proposed shifts from Scenario B). It's the furthest from Tysons and abuts the Arlington county line, so it really has nowhere else to draw additional students from to make use of the available capacity of Chesterbrook (and leave more capacity available for growth near Tysons and even some modest growth in downtown McLean where more projects like Signet could happen). Haycock also likely to see increased enrollment from West Falls Church development, so shifting kids there from KG seems a bit short-sighted as well unless they are planning to unwind the AAP Center aspect of Haycock.

FYI, the School Board is tentatively scheduled to receive a specific Kent Gardens redistricting recommendation from FCPS staff in advance of the upcoming meeting on November 20th. Any idea where they are heading? If past is prologue, they'll wait until at least Friday afternoon (11/17) to post the staff recommendation.
