Class of 2020-2023 could've make the difference for AT least Peterson but they didnt
We voted for Saddam.

What were the key reasons?
Chap Petersen never showed up in Falls Church. He ran on a slate with people who weren't on the ballot in Falls Church. He acted like we didn't exist!
He opposes an assault weapons ban.
He voted against requiring gun owners to report if their firearms were lost or stolen.
He started the "Redskins" caucus to defend the racist team name.
He sued Governor Northam over necessary COVID mask mandates.
He went on a Trumper radio show to say that "during massive resistance, at least we had a functioning school system."
He voted against allowing liquor to be delivered to your door!
Saddam Salim, on the other hand, will support banning assault weapons, protect abortion access and the right to choose, and he'll actually show up for our community.

People in SD-36 voted for useless SB member Stella Pekarsky and took out normal dem Barker. Barker didn't even do anything that the left would define as "conservative" yet he wasn't woke and annoying so he got the boot.
I do understand that Chap Petersen did things that many on the left deem "conservative" but in all reality Chap was a standard liberal who was essential in building up the Democratic party in Fairfax back in the early 2000's. I think the fact that he gave credibility to Republican viewpoints on Covid restrictions/masks in schools drove the local Dem apparatus absolutely insane and they were going to stop at nothing to defeat him. He literally had a "F" rating from the NRA and was backed by Clean Virginia but apparently him thinking that 5 year olds shouldn't be forced to mask all day in 2022 was a bridge to far.
Steve Descano won simply because of braindead white liberals who read Blue Virginia and convinced themselves that Nuttall was some sort of MAGA Republican. The Asian areas in western Fairfax rejected Descano while the white liberal areas voted for him.
NoVA used to have some amazing Democrats representing the area. They supported gay rights, the environment, and strong schools. They kept crime low and were not partisan hacks who spend all day on social media fear-mongering and yelling.
The reason many people moved to this area was due to the good governance and stable environment. The rise in crime and decline of the public school is sad to see yet it seems like a majority of NoVA voters support it for whatever delusional reason.
I miss the NoVA Dems of 2015 and the sane leadership they had. The Republicans can be nutjobs at times who I wholeheartedly tend to disagree with on certain issues. I voted for all the local Dems in 2019 and didn't think twice about it. I wrongly assumed they would govern like their predecessors.
I feel politically homeless on the local level right now and I am concerned about the direction Fairfax is headed in. Long gone are the days where good governance and moderate politicians ran things up here.
Maybe I am wrong about all of this, I don't know. How does everyone else feel?
I know it's tough being a closet Repuglican in Nova these days.
Eh, 42% of Nova is republican. 4 in 10 voters are republican.

The people in NoVA will find any excuse to vote Dem regardless of how bad the candidate is.
It's the same thing with many Republicans and Donald Trump.
No matter what these people say or do, they will always have loyal legions of cult-like supporters.
The Dems up here will destroy the area, have fun!

What books can't you purchase? Just because people (both Ds and Rs) don't want porn in the kids' sections of public libraries doesn't mean they are banned.
I really don't think
We're banning books, but it's ok, because we're not banning banning them, just banning them!
is going to be a winning political strategy.
You all realize that both democrats and republicans do this right? The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn And To Kill A Mockingbird are both subject to “book bans” by liberals. None of these are book bans by the way. Both liberals and conservatives are asking for certain books to be removed from school reading lists and school libraries. You can still buy these books at your local bookstore and Amazon.

They don’t have enough land to built more schools. The high schools especially are over capacity. That makes schools like Yorktown to have to pull kids from the non wealthy parts of the county.
Yeah, with all of its schools, Fairfax has managed to keep its poor students isolated in certain schools. The hypocrisy of blue Fairfax is off the charts.
And so your solution is to do what, exactly? Busing? Do tell. Be specific.

To be fair, we are already busing but in reverse. Look at Woodson, Fairfax, Oakton, Langley, and Marshall boundaries. You can't say with a straight face that Woodson neighborhoods on the west side of the Fairfax County Parkway and neighborhoods adjacent to 495 belong at the same school. People love to claim that major roads are "natural boundaries" that separate communities but they only use that excuse when it benefits them from being moved to a low-SES pyramid.

What specifically do you mean by "moderate"?
times when candidates mattered more than party, when democrats would win seats in southwest virginia and republicans would win in fairfax.
What positions are "moderate" in 2023?
Still waiting to hear what these "moderate" positions are in 2023.
Realistically, a moderate that would represent the whole country would be a Joe Manchin. The country as a whole leans socially liberal, but economically a little more conservative.

So a moderate is pro-life, anti same sex marriage, anti environmental protections, etc?
Nope. That’s Republican. Manchin is a DINO.
You’re ignorance for the word ‘moderate’ shines through with your teenager terminology like ‘DINO’. I don’t think you will ever get it kiddo
Moderates are not anti-women, anti-environment, anti-LGBTQ, etc.
I think what PP is trying to do is try to ‘prove’ that there are no moderates in the republican party because they are all the things listed, and thus only democrats are the one with common sense. failing miserably
