West Allentown is nice as is most of Bethlehem and Emmaus. This house is pending, in OP’s budget, and in a great school system. The Lehigh Valley has any retail you want, nice parks, and most importantly it’s close to NYC and Philly if you need to take a weekend trip for more cultural or retail amenities. A lot of these other places PP’s are mentioning are in the middle of nowhere in the South or in Michigan. I’d rather be less than two hours from the best city in the country.

OP has some choices to make. A two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo for $230k in a safe and nice area could make a lot of sense -- much more than $300k for a SFH in a decrepit and dangerous area.


You can find a $300k SFH in a non-dangerous area, just not near a lot of corporate jobs.
