4 kids by affluent (familial wealth rather than high personal HHI) Caucasian families is not uncommon in our neighborhood in MD.

We know at least half a dozen such families in our school itself.

I was not aware that this is taboo or unusual…I wear very small diamond studs ( my DH got me from Brilliant Earth for our Anniversary 10 yrs ago). I was born in India so I grew up around women above 40 wearing large multi diamond studs all day, all year long.

What do people in DMV area think about women wearing a small diamond stud daily?

I'm also Indian and wear multi-diamond studs as my everyday earring as I'm used to that being the daytime standard, and they look better on me than pearls, etc. Ultimately, you should wear what makes you look good, and don't worry about arbitrary rules that were made for a different group of people anyway.

Also brother is a Harvard MBA


Plus the whole family is very tall. DCUM women love "tall genes" and are all afraid they'll have short kids.

I posted upthread. It's generational. My family has been in northern VA since the 1700s. My grandmothers have day stud earrings and night ones. Day ones are like pearl, gold knots, jade, coral. Night ones are diamonds and rubies.

DP. I think it’s moving that direction. When we first moved to our home we paid a lawn company to dump chemicals (gross I know) all over to kill the clover. Then the clover came back anyway a few years later.

We are now more educated about what a scam lawn care is and how we’ve all been duped into thinking clover is a bad weed. I’m now a huge fan of pollinator friendly yards. When kept neatly mowed, it is nice and lush looking. Soft of my kids’ feet (they do water play and run around barefoot in summer). We aren’t spending tons of $ and time to maintain it (a total win in my book). And my kids really love seeing all the bees and birds come into our yard.

I think the perfectly manicured, chemical-sprayed golf course looking yards are now like bolt on boobs — everyone can tell they’re fake and tacky. I love my neighbors’ yards that are certified wildlife habitats.


Our back lawn is mainly violets and plantain weeds. I say I'm doing it for the bees.

I wear the earrings that they use to pierce ears, because I'm allergic to most other ones. They cost $2-3. Dentist asked if they were real diamonds.

You've never worn any earrings except the ones they used to pierce your ears??


I buy the ones that they use in the piercing guns. I'm not the original ones from the last century - just the same kind. You can buy sets of all the birth stone colors, and I use those. I never remember to put in dangly earrings for a night out. There again, I don't have droopy earlobes like friends who wear heavier ones.

I'm a nurse who worked in hospital at the height of Covid and I roll my eyes whenever I read a DCUM proclaiming this kind of stuff with pride. Like they were ahead of the curve/knew it wasn't a "big deal" while my co-workers and I were dealing with the consequences at work.
