I have never lived in an area that cared about kids MORE than middle TN. Incredible philanthropy for schools and youth programs. The shooting is DEEPLY felt here.
Please don't tell me that folks here don't care about kids' deaths. they are DEEPLY moved.
Not if they don’t do anything but continue to puff their chests about protecting children from (checks notes) *drag queens*.
I know Tennessee well. I am from the Kingsport area where people identify their church affiliation when they first meet. Also, a lot of them are on the dole for “disability” while worrying about what the blacks in town are getting in terms of benefits. They think they are good people. They are not.

I love all the pap about the "look" of this -- it has a "bad look" because the expelled guys were black.
Where is the yearning for substance in this country, or do you live your life by "looks"

Here in Middle TN, our two sons have off today from their private high school that has an endowment of $120 MM dollars -- probably the same as the big three or perhaps wealthier.
We'll attend Easter services at our THRIVING parish. Any enjoy our beautiful home that probably costs a third of what it would cost in the DMV, with no state income taxes and property tax of less than $5k.
We also enjoy our neighbors who are the nicest neighbors I've ever had.
It's not all perfect! Some days I miss the ethnic restaurants of the DMV and DMV's museums.
But you folks who imagine this is some rough redneck country fully of toothless hillbillies, well, perhaps the ignorance is your won.
We know that educated white christians can have a good life in TN but it’s at the expense of minorities, women and poor uneducated people. You seem proud to put that on display so therefor the rest of the world sees you as the retrograde bigots that you are. You even disparage native TN poor folk with your hillbilly comment. I would prefer the company of toothless hillbillies than you self righteous corporate church booster types any day. Nasty backwards state.

These babies were murdered with an assault weapon. The students/parents/citizens could not get the attention of the TN lawmakers to do something to prevent that from happening again - and by that I mean those in control, the GOP.
These three lawmakers did their job, they advocated for the citizens they represent. The GOP has no rational reason for choosing weapons of war over CHILDREN. So they did what authoritarian government would do, they attacked the messengers instead.
I think they made a huge miscalculation ejecting these two lawmakers. They are smart, passionate and eloquent and now the whole world knows their names.
Oh stop it. Those “legislators” had a 45 minute tantrum in the People’s House. Then they got up and did the Martin. Luther. King. Jr. thing where you place. a. period. after. each. word. There was a place for this performance—it’s high school oratory competitions.
Rep. Farmer didn’t want to introduce the resolution expelling these “representatives”. But they couldn’t just apologize for their incivility and for inciting their supporters to protest in the Halls of the Legislature. So what was he supposed to do with such insolence? They had to be expelled. And around the country people said “Finally someone is dealing with entitled woke brats.”
+ a million
I get that here in the tiny echo chamber of DCUM, these three show boaters are now martyrs and heroes to the left. But out in the real world, most people are quite happy to see disrupters being dealt with. May it be a trend that continues.
This country was founded by disrupters. Someone had to do something to draw attention to legislatures that are putting guns above the lives of children. Let’s not forget their “show boating” was to bring attention to the fact the GOP controlled government is doing nothing to control access to guns.

The only fools that are saying this are old boomers, who are dying out. Do you realize how of those protesting kids will be eligible to vote in 2024? With this action, Republicans will continue to lose ground with Gen Z.

The same is true of eastern Tennessee.
Bullshit. If they were deeply moved they would have joined that protest at the Capitol.
This is a state that enacted anti-trans legislation in the name of protecting children but will shrug at doing anything about guns after children are shot dead.
Actually, if you have been paying attention, the governor is looking to have armed security at all schools which, IMO, will do far more in protecting children.
Probably not what you want, but it is action.
And, protesting does nothing. Action does.
Typical right-wing policy response: Bring in more guns.
We already know all cops are bastards. Most of them are pussies, especially in a school shooting. The answer is not armed guards at schools — that doesn’t make children safe and it doesn’t make them feel safe. They don’t need to see that, either.
The answer is to BAN THE GUNS. Offer to buy them back and melt them down. Those who refuse? We take their guns by force. Pry them from their cold, dead hands if need be. Make them play out those legend in their own minds fantasies they have and see how it goes.
Tennessee Republicans hate children. It’s a backwater, shithole state with a terrible football team too. But, yeah, I miss Pal’s.

And a state, no doubt, that you have never been to. You have no clue.
Lived in northeast Tennessee for years. It’s gorgeous. The people? Not so much. Nothing about Tennessee policy today says they love children. You can’t just bleat “Jesus Loves Me, this I know” and poof you’re good.

It's probably a good thing you moved away since you seem to have disdain for the people there.
And, personal anecdotes are great.... but they are still merely personal anecdotes.
