No reasonable parent of children cares if someone feels that their pets are like kids. I have two dogs and three children and I love them all. They are all great. One of the pps here. I think it’s fine if people don’t want to have kids. I also think it’s fine if someone is an animal lover and wants to have a pet or lots of pets. I think it is strange when people hold up pets as an alternative to kids or as an equivalent in some way. It just isn’t, and I think needing to make it be speaks to issues on a deeper level. I just can’t relate to someone who wants to be wished a happy Mother’s Day due to being a “dog mom”.

My friends are not 100% relatable to me but I don't do deep dives into what makes them unrelatable (having trust funds, having great relationships with their parents, etc.) I just accept them as they are and if I feel triggered by something I sit with it. If you feel triggered by someone calling themself a dog mom sit with it. Do you need validation that your life is harder or your situation is more complex or enriching than your friends? Do you really think your friend doesn't understand the difference between being the mom of a human and the mom of dog? Honestly, this dog mom thing is so stupid it's not on my radar but it may behove you to figure out why you'd end a friendship over it because that's crazy.
