It sounds like you’d be happier living in a socialist country. The U.S. isn’t one. I’m not okay with being penalized for sacrificing, making wise choices, and working my butt off.

Exactly! Kids who grew up with stable homes and enough food can focus on school and have lower rates of incarceration. Increased income inequity/poverty correlates to higher crime.

What kind of services are they receiving? Is it beneficial or they just wasting money?


I’ve listed them previously but government subsidizes mortgages, student loans, employer-based health care, 529s and 401Ks. Wealthier people hire accountants to reduce their tax liability, so often the pay proportionally less than poor people.

I benefit from these programs, so yes I think they’re beneficial. But I also feel head start, SNAP and TANF are beneficial for people but I don’t receive those items.

PP “takes” services too. We all do.



Right. PP uses services like fire/police, which PP uses. PP also pays for others to have those services, and welfare, for others to use. This doesn’t make PP a hypocrite not sure what point you’re trying to make? I think it’s pretty clear that those of us with six figure tax bills are “giving” a variety of services to others, who do not pay for them.


We all give what we can and we all take.

Paying higher taxes than someone else doesn't give you any special standing or right to be judgmental/critical of others.

That doesn't mean you get to be judgmental or critical. You certainly shouldn't look down on people who use different services than you.

Government money is government money! If you get the mortgage deduction on your taxes, or subsidized student loans, or have a 529 or 401k, you are getting government money. Those are government welfare programs for middle and upper classes. But Americans are ok with that because they see it acceptable people getting what they deserve.

America is a brutal system. We all claw at opportunity so we don’t end up on the bottom rung because deep down we know that poor people didn’t do anything to deserve their poor existence. They’re there by chance. Luck of the draw. And most Americans know they’re one emergency bill away from that fate.


Umm, no. Government money isn't government money. The money is our money and the government takes a portion of that (it is not giving us back our own money). Our elected officials have decided to design behavioral incentives in the way they take our money, hence the mortgage deduction. Same with retirement accounts. Choosing not to tax something is not subsidizing it or giving people anything. That is their money.

Subsidized student loans - yes, that is welfare.
