I in know you probably think this is a “conspiracy theory” but I have 17 hens and haven’t gotten an egg in 2 months. I feed Producer’s Pride and I am grateful to be learning about this issue. Throwing away what I have left and switching to what my local feed mill sells. It’s ridiculous to own that many hens and have to buy eggs. They usually slow down in winter, but this is the first time I had to buy eggs in four years.

I think what this thread and the other threads on grocery prices are demonstrating is that the super low end of the grocery market is gone (excluding salvage stores and other alternative options). Two years ago, the cheapest eggs at my discount grocery were 2.39 and they would regularly go on sale for 99-1.99. Now I don't see sales on eggs. Similarly, the sales price for a 10lb bag of chicken thighs was .39/lb-now it's .99/lb. Ground beef went on sale for .99/lb and now the sale price is 2.49lb. Store brand pasta was .49/lb and now it's .98/lb. You may think that super cheap food is gross and it may not be a problem for you, but you should be worried about what it means for other people.

I think I paid $9 for 18 organic eggs at Harris Teeter last time I purchased there. It was a much better deal than buying a dozen. Now that I have checked the prices at Sam’s and Costco, i’ll start buying them there. The key seems to be buying large quantities. I also think the price increase has been more dramatic for non-organic than organic. IMO they were a real bargain for years so that’s making the prices seem even more astronomical. We use a lot of eggs but I still consider them to be worth purchasing with the increases since I can pay about 50 cents an egg.
.

I don't have a membership to either of those places. I don't know if I can justify joining just to save on eggs.

I have never taken a note of the brand of eggs I am buying.
