No. UVA is not discounting grades because of the pandemic. Dean J is very, very clear that 4 years of good grades with sustained rigor is one of the most important factors for admission.

Economics is a tough major, because it’s presumed those kids are going for the McIntyre School of Commerce.

I’m not a Fairfax County parent, but it is not necessarily a 4.0 unweighted. You can easily have several Bs and if you have enough APs with enough As in them you can easily have a weighted GPA over 4.4.

NP. Through 11th grade DS has a 3.975/4.496. Two A- 6 APs, 1 post-AP

Deferred, in state, GPA 4.38, 1510 SAT. No sports, 2 ECs, including mentoring.

Disappointed for sure, but has 2 other acceptances already, so will get over this. Not sure how RD will pan out.

I'm sorry to hear it. Which college within UVA?

Arts & Sciences.

Major? CS in A&S?

No, Economics.

Me again. Debating whether to ED2 to W&M, or take our chances with RD at both.

“Our” chances? You might want to step back a little.

What an inappropriate comment to someone who just heard disappointing news. Go away.

Thank you!

Part of the GPA issue may be the pandemic. Kids had 2yesrs of inflated grades, so maybe they were discounted.

He has a fighting chance. My DS got in last year with a 1480. But all his friends have different SAT scores or GPA. UVA definitely is looking for a certain type of student that isn’t just numbers. Good luck!

I agree he has a good chance, but yes so much more goes into it. Good luck and update us!

He got in!!! Thank you DCUM he is thrilled

Congratulations! I'm the poster with the deferred DS and I'm happy for you!

Wow! I would have thought that profile was an admit.

If I had to guess I’d say it’s the GPA. At our nova hs, the gpa cut off even for ED was about a 4.4.

Well, duh, it certainly wasn’t the SAT!

🙄 wow this thread has really brought out the worst of DCUM.

UVA threads all seem to become dumpster fires. Assuming a lot of defers and rejects based on the sniping.
