Subject: Which lowbrow books do you love?
Is smut lowbrow or is that a separate category?
I went through a smut phase and now an on a regency romance phase apparently. I also read real books so I can talk about them in public.

I read The Housemaid but had no idea she had so many others. Are any of them related? Their names sound like the stories might be very similar, but they're not just repeats of each other? I liked The Housemaid a lot. Like you said, quick and easy read.
The Housemaid's Secret is the sequel to Housemaid. I don't think any of the others are related.

Stephen King is a great writer and his plots aren't silly, but I think he gets docked because of the supernatural/horror aspect. Such a pity because he's actually one of my favorite authors of all time and truly a phenomenal writer. The supernatural/horror stuff is beside the point, just like the Sopranos wasn't really a show just about the mafia.
He gets docked for bad inconsistencies of characters for the sake of plot. Did you read the latest book?
Sleeping Beauties? Yes. Fairy Tale? Also yes.
What are your issues?

Sure he is, he patches it all together in a really basic, anti-literary way. It doesn't mean it's not a great page turner, but it's never literary art
We'll agree to disagree. I think Stephen King is one of the best at character development. He grabs you right off the hook and he paints his characters as if they're truly alive. If your criteria is that anything that isn't literary art (whatever you decide to define that as, I guess), then I'd say the majority of books discussed on here are lowbrow.
