Agree with this. There is plenty of housing but the housing being built is unaffordable.

It's because affordable housing is not profitable in expensive areas, and all the freeloaders who want to pay very little rent want to live in the nicest parts of the city. Let the government invest in improving bad parts of the city and building there instead of expecting builders or homeowners to house those who cannot pay market rates. DC still has plenty of areas where people can live for very cheap, don't tell me it's Aspen or something

In DC, any place you develop will become an expensive area. Trying to pursue affordable housing in DC is like playing whack-a-mole. People thinking that developing Rock Creek Park or any other green space in DC will magically solve housing affordability are completely delusional.

They don't actually think that -- that is what they are trying to sell so they can make money developing a National Park. It's disgusting.

The Snark Growthers keep promising that if we just build, build, build more in DC we will get inclusive, affordable housing. So how much of the large City Ridge and Upton Place developments will really be affordable? The billboard outside Upton Place calls it "one of DC's most exclusive enclaves." "Inclusive" and affordable -- LOL.

Not OP but I’m in favor. I keep hearing people say there’s a “housing crisis” and yet apparently the crisis isn’t so big that they are willing to keep huge swaths of land off limits and exclusionary zoned for non housing purposes.

DC has plenty of space, it's hardly the most expensive metro area, it's actually pretty affordable unless you expect to have yuppie amenities and niceties of the expensive parts. It's also relatively low density compared with other cities, so there is space to build multi-family to increase density even if there are height restrictions. Developers want to make money, so when they build higher density housing, they build yuppie towers that are $$$, they aren't in business building housing projects, which is what affordable housing is, really. Let's be real here.

Anything to have free or supremely cheap housing they feel entitled to in the nicer parts of the city or near them. There is plenty of cheap housing for anyone who wants to find it, but you may not want to live there..

DC YIMBYs: If you oppose turning a neighborhood park in ParkView where there are limited parks and green space into housing then you’re a NIMBY (and probably racists too).

Also DC YIMBYs: You cannot even think about converting any unutilized squared foot of the large park in a very green area of the city because I use that park.

It’s obvious and transparent b.s.

There will be a lot of housing built on RFK site and surrounding parking lots. Put in a craft brewery or two, some latte shops and an urban farm with raised beds and baby goats and .....

PRESTO! - thousands of white people will be moving to Northeast.

You get a roof over your head in the area that you can afford, which may very well be in Prince William or Hagerstown or Lothian. Or Germantown.

To the victor go the spoils, in this case, a condo with a private roof deck steps from 14th St. You're not entitled to that, you earn it. Encourage your children to do better.

As a former 14th St resident, go jump in a lake. Literally no one who lives there now "earned it". It's all trust fund babies.

How about the National Arboretum? The land is flat and sandwiched in a lots of small single family homes but has easy access to I295, and 495.
