It's totally cheesy but I just love Shining Through. It's a romantic drama with Melanie Griffith, Michael Douglas, Joely Richardson, Liam Neeson and Sir John Gielgud. It's totally something that you would never see as a movie nowadays but maybe on cable. But you know what, these people can act and it's directed by David Selzer and it takes me out of my reality and it's just plain fun.
I also really like Spygames with a very hot young Brad Pitt and Robert Redford. Again, fun. But people just don't watch stuff you have to listen to dialogue to follow
I also think that these days, these fun, small productions are too lightweight. Everything has to be mega in scale, heavy drama serious or stupid weird and crazy. Nothing can be straightforward, small and humble. Ghostdog with Forrest Whitaker is another small movie I think is so well done.
I watch a lot of older movies because honestly - I'm looking for some entertainment. I don't want to mega sequels sometimes. I don't want the heavy serious stories.
