Highest math?
Yes. But Asian male.
I am so sorry. That should not be the case - and race should not even be a required piece of the app.
Many Asian males get in![]()
You do understand that doesn’t answer the question, right? The question is whether Asian males have to have higher qualifications to get admitted than other groups. I don’t know about UVA but that’s clearly what the Harvard data showed in the lawsuit pending before the Supreme Court.

But it will all work out. All our kids are smart and hardworking and generally awesome, and they will all do well.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Again-- UVA could fill its class several times over with kids with near-perfect stats. They just can't take them all. And they are trying to balance kids in the different undergraduate schools and majors, too.
I know it is cold comfort, but try to remind your kid and yourself that it is NOT a sign of personal failure. It ends up being pretty arbitrary. Admissions officers are not superhuman. They get tired and burnt out and one 4.4 GPA/1590 SAT kid gets in and another does not.
Why? Maybe they already admitted two similar kids from the same high school and your DC's file was unfortunately read last. Maybe they already admitted too many boys, or girls. Maybe they have too may people who want to major in physics. Etc.
Basically, they could eliminate the bottom third of the applicant pool on stats alone and fill the rest of the class by lottery, because every other applicant is qualified, and no one would every be able to see any quality difference.
And does the legacy name carry weight?
What about accepting more of the high performing kids from VA?
Right. Sorry but that PP Eagle Scout kid being in state and not getting in is messed up. Someone like that should always get into their state flagship. It isn’t right

Congrats!

I also think that no matter what they say, UVA goes for high stats kids every time over kids with lower GPAs from more rigorous schools. From a USNews rankings perspective, they have zero incentive to distinguish between the kid who got a great GPA due to pandemic grade inflation and the kid who earned the same GPA at a more rigorous school: USNews doesn't ask for squishy measures of rigor, just for the raw numbers.
Oh- and girls have a disadvantage across the board, b/c when it comes to college admission everywhere except tech schools, we are now in the universe of affirmative action for men.
Explain 17:19 then. Perfect everything… but not first generation or URM. That kid should have gotten in
Actually, according to school stats one of the “Whites” took that kid’s “spot.”

that no one outside VA cares about and has ever heard of in fact
Guess so.
UVA is such a backwater hick school, don't know why it gets so much attention on this board...pathetic.
oh good, a UVA basher is here to help the parents of the rejected kids feel better!
