You are correct in that its easy to live your life in MoCo unaware of the gang activity and violence.
But I also challenge you to go walk around some areas of Wheaton or Montgomery Village after dark by yourself and still ask yourself if its anything like the Wire.
I was once in the Walkers Choice apartment area off of MV ave after dark and it was not a welcoming environment. At All

Mock all you want. No interest in being around this or for my children to be exposed to it. My choice, free country.
I’ve never voted Rep. I voted for legalizing drugs. But I’d vote for anyone who’s bring peace back to the streets and would vote to ban marijuana in a second, having had to live with it now. The city is a mess and smells like a used sock.
But there are neighborhoods where this does not happen and that’s where I choose to live.
Anonymous wrote:Montgomery County has plenty of MS-13 gang activity. It is in the news all the time. There are areas you won't notice it but it exists in the background. Here is an article (yes, it's a few years old) that explains who gang members target.)

This is from a more a 2021 article:

MS-13 is a national and international gang composed primarily of immigrants or descendants from El Salvador and other central American countries. Branches or “cliques” of MS-13, one of the largest street gangs in the United States, operate throughout Frederick County, Anne Arundel County, Prince George’s County, and Montgomery County, Maryland.

A gang is defined as 3 or more people that commit crimes together.

I just scanned some of this "very DCUM" thread and kept coming back to the OP.
How was this news to you?! Where have you been living? Under a rock?!

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Yikes. OP here. Had no idea that not wanting to live in a neighborhood with gang activity would be a contentious issue! Apologies if I offended anyone, just trying to find the safest place I can for my family that we can afford. If there’s an increased chance for stray bullets in certain places I’d feel more comfortable not living there.
Just wait until you find out about lightning!
