My children absolutely loved old town Alexandria though, where we stayed - the cobblestones, restaurants, shopping, waterfront.
I agree with this. DC is perhaps the most bland city in the country.
Native here and agree. Exciting times in DC is talk of GS pay scales and TSP returns. City also doesn’t have much character. All the natives have been priced out for condos and Whole Foods.

No, not San Diego!! I loved it there so much we even went back. The weather is absolutely perfect. The little gas lamp district. Padres game. Such a cool town. Not to mention the golf. I kinda want to move there.
Ah well, no accounting for taste!
Mine:
Hawaii
London (though I go a lot for work and have come around some, I was super unimpressed first time)

This is heresy I know but Florence. Too crowded and touristy, did not care for Renaissance art (1000 Marys, Madonna, crucifixes, etc).

We were planning on stopping in Savannah on a trip next month but we literally couldn't find a good hotel with good reviews. Every hotel had bad reviews. It was crazy. We finally dropped the whole place from our itinerary.

Alaska — way overrated.

I'm not sure I actually had any expectations that it would be fun, but I found Charlotte to be the most boring city I've ever been to.
People who are saying Costa Rica need to get out of San Jose and Jaco.

My husband had been wanting to take me to Maine for 20 years and we went last summer. Everyone was telling me how amazing and wonderful Maine is, but I found it very meh. Pebbly beaches, too cold water, terrible food (outside of oyster/seafood places) and it was either poor and depressing or overly touristy. We spent a week driving and visiting 3-4 different places, and I didn't find one place I liked. The motel/hotel quality is also very middling.
I found LA underwhelming the two times I've been there, and wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
Meanwhile, I very much enjoyed Costa Rica, Aruba, Cambodia, and New Orleans on past trips.
As with everything, YMMV.

+1
Also, the food and the weather, both horrible. I cannot imagine living there.
