I've been home with my small children all week and will have to work through the weekend. Sorry teachers, it's stressful and exhausting, but you can manage!
They’re YOUR OWN kids. Sorry, mom. You can manage!

Ok but why?
In case we have more snow?
Actually yes, that is probably the reason. I bet they close tomorrow as well so they have now burned through 5 days and can only use one more snow day. Historically APS has closed for other weather events as well or for some other random reasons, so if they don't try and claw back some days, they will end up extending the school year.
AEM in true rich liberal fashion are very upset because they all had travel plans and now this will ruin those. Of course, they threw in "oh and it will be awful for teachers too I guess..." And they would never, ever stop to consider that working parents had to make alternate arrangements for their kid and can't afford to travel multiple times a year so it actually they catch a break. But of course AEM would be moan anyone who is catching a break at their expense. They apparently don't get enough privilege in their N. Arlington neighborhoods (oh and those one or two people who will chime in, no, they actually live in S. Arlington of course in a SFH neighborhood)![]()
Lol. The only poster I know about lives near Drew and plans to visit her dad for the first time in 3 years. But don’t let me mess up the premise that apparently even you recognized as faulty.

Add in any more icy weather and a few sick days and we could end up really grateful for another school day. My early elementary kids are already playing catch up after a year of not being able to engage through virtual learning.
At this rate, APS elementary kids will be averaging 1-2 years behind their peers nationwide. How will that EVER be made up???

The punishment aspect of a male superintendent castigating his majority female staff by making them work during a planning day is something I cannot turn away from. You PP seem to share this view with him. Teachers were out with COIVD, some had to stay home with their own children and they are now being punished by having the only day they are given to get report cards done taken away.
You are making this into something that the PP did not say. There are male teachers -- this has nothing to do with gender.
I work in a male dominated profession (engineering) and I am not allowed to pull a "woman card" if I don't turn my work in on time. Sometimes that means working on a weekend if I have to take unexpected time off due to childcare or when my office was not accessible due to COVID. I'm not really sure why teachers are different. If its that big an issue, move the end of the quarter forward a week, and make grade prep day on MLK day or some other not real holiday.
