Research links the mechanics of it as being similar to chronic fatigue syndrome that is triggered by a virus and send immune system into a self destruct mode for many years. Hopefully, Long haul COVID will Not last as long as CFS. But we don’t know yet because not enough time has passed.

It is triggered by a virus, usually Epstein Barr virus, than creates havoc in the auto immune system of people with CFS. Many previously healthy active and happy people become shadows of their former selves after getting viral I’ll eases that result in CFS.

COVID researches are currently exploring similarities with long haul COVID, which is also triggered by a virus.

I have family and friends struggling with CFS. It is not a mental illness but very much rooted in biology. There is complex interplay between a virus, auto immune system and stress. Stigma does not help but education, research, moral support and major lifestyle modifications help.

It is going to take schools a long time to realize that testing itself is the issue. The staff shortages are caused by the asymptotic testing. MCPS’s lack of testing (which is just a function of their incompetence) actually positions them better to stay open. Eventually, like various sports leagues have done, testing will be dropped, but not before a lot of unnecessary quarantines and school closures among area private schools.

As we discuss disappointments around communication, how schools are responding etc, remember that MCPS did no testing. Their reporting is based only on parent & staff self reporting. Currently, testing has required an OPT-IN form for parents. I’m not discounting our concerns in the least, but there is a whole different world in our nearby neighborhood schools where many of our friends live.

If this is true, then that is a further sign of bad leadership. The HOS should not be simply responding to the loudest voices and waiting for "support" from other factions. A competent HOS/ Board makes a thoughtful decision, based on parameters important to the school community, and stands by it.
