Or maybe these kids got aid. Not everyone has $80k cash per year for school. DCUM tends to forget this.
I would assume that most people who have enough to send their kids to visi have enough for college, otherwise the could easily put the visi tuition in a 529, send their kid to public, and afford college
Visi is one of the cheaper schools around, at $32k/yr.
Sidwell is $48k. NCS is $49k.
Ah. *Only* 32k a year. Cheap.
This may qualify as the most tone deaf “DCUM Bubble” post of all time.
We're talking about independent schools in the DC area. It is what it is. 32 is a lot less than many of the other schools. If reading this upsets you, maybe don't come to this forum. There are many posts and threads that will trigger you.
I have a kid who went to private school in DC. I know what it costs. I also know that the demographics of the schools that cost $32k a year vary not at all from schools that cost $49. Anyone who thinks so is clueless about the real world.
We’re not clueless about the real world. Stop it. Enough of the threadjack.
Actually, it’s very relevant to the topic at hand. Only DCUM bubble dwellers are shocked that students, from any school, are happy to attend the #30 ranked public college in the country.
Back to your bubble.
Personally, I am not shocked. I think there is a relatively small number of people in the bubble of which you speak. Considering the vast number of schools, T30, T50 or even T100 is great.
And would you take the nasty tone out of your posts? There’s no reason for it.

As it gets more and more difficult to get into "good" colleges, the unhooked, white and well-off look at schools that a generation ago would not have been on a college list. A slow dribble of interest, one or two who actually enroll, and reports back of receiving a terrific education and a happy college experience, and before you know it the high school sends a half dozen or so per year to a particular college. Clemson may be the flavor of the month. In my day it was USC (South Carolina), Charleston and Elon.
Outgoing, attractive, umc private school kids don’t need grindy colleges.
you forgot 'white'.
In this area, yeah. But I know a lot of attractive young rich gen z/gen aa Indian girls in the tristate area that attend chill colleges and will do magnificent in life. They are all 5’7 minimum in height, always in designer, look like south Bombay scenesters.
Parents are usually biz owners (real estate) or in finance.
Do they have dots on their foreheads?

Sure. But some of the PP would have you believe that these private grads all have scores to get into UChicago or W&M out of state or whatever but they just want to have fun so they went for...Clemson. Not UNC-Chapel Hill, Tulane, one of the UCs or a dozen other warm, fun southern schools with better reputations that would match their supposed scores. As if there aren't kids in the bottom half at the privates--they weren't the academic strivers at the private and they aren't the academic strivers for college and they will do just fine career-wise and socially. I think it's great they found a place they love--I just have no idea why people have to puff up some fake explanation about their academic qualifications when that's not even what they are seeking. Just call it what it is.
Agree with you. My DC is looking at Clemson type schools. Smart just not super academic. Outgoing, kind , interesting kid. Zero worries about ability to do just fine and be happy in life. Went to good DC area private and comes from a fortunate background in terms of financial security and connections for first job and internships. Athletic. I honestly wouldn’t want DC at a grind school. There is more to life.

Parents who have children there use this term. I’ve heard it many times.
+1
My friend who graduated from there calls it Visi, as does her niece who currently attends.
My friends daughter goes there and refers to it as Visi 100 percent of the time.

Right next to Georgetown Prep, right?
Georgetown Prep is in Rockville.
