I guess I’m the dissenting voice for the structured and tailored clothing. By nature of being very large and having lumps varies places, structured clothing never looks right. I think of a teacher I knew. She wore long loose and flowy skirts and dresses or midi length and always looked so beautiful. She accessorized well and used beautiful scarfs in her hair a lot; tied around a low bun, as a headband, etc.

^ Btw I love Ina Garten, regardless of her body or weight! I think she is great.

Looks like she may have lost weight since her early TV days? If you Google “Ina Garten 2015,” for example, you can see pictures where she looks much heavier. If you look at recent pics it looks like she has slimmed down.

I always thought the main character on Drop Dead Diva is a good example of how to think about dressing a larger body (though I think the actress isn't obese, so maybe that difference matters).

Basically, in the work and the casual clothes everything she wears is tailored and nothing is too drapey. She almost always has a defined waist, and she generally wears necklines that are a little lower, albeit still modest (i.e. a small scoop or v-neck instead of a crew neck).

I think you should also figure out what your best feature is (legs, shoulders, chest, etc) and accent it as much as possible. I think one mistake people make when they are overweight is trying to hide behind rectangular, over-sized clothes...which actually makes you look worse. You have a best feature...flaunt it!

I tend to lean towards dresses, which I always get tailored to fit me correctly up top.

Also, I find buying expensive staple pieces helps. They really hold up longer and look better for longer.

She's not obese and her weight has gone up and down, but Queen Latifah is one woman who looks amazing and dresses elegant and well at every size she's at.

This is me. Always do hair and makeup. Going without is not an option. Tailor clothes and style them well. Good bra and underwear. Shop plus size and get it tailored. Know what works on my body.
