I think that OP was either (a) hoping for something cheaper, or (b) feeling weird about spending a lot of money on one small item. But PP here is right. Just buy the one piece of whatever, or give cash. Unless you know them well and have great taste, and then pick out something on your own.

We put a Dyson vacuum and a Kitchen Aid mixer with all attachments on our engagement registry (in our circles people give checks for weddings, and physical gifts off a registry for the engagement party). We were given both.

There are people who would find those highly offensive. Different crowds are comfortable spending different amounts. There are probably people who register at WalMart.

OP keep in mind that registrants often receive 10% off when they close out the registry. Adding something to the registry makes it possible to buy at a discount after the wedding is over and the rest of the gifts have been given.

Just give them cash OP. That’s probably what they actually want. Especially if they are on the older side of marriage ages and already have every kitchen gadget and linen item known to Man.
