Adding a school will show you where you are on the list. At Bunker Hill you will get IB preference so probably be pretty high. I would also check out Friendship schools and Behune.

No, that's not correct. Some schools are Early Action which guarantees a seat IB but there are ways you have to list it in the lottery application. Not every Title 1 does this.

Thanks, I was mistaken. I also didn't realize you had to apply by the deadline for the Early Action guarantee.

It doesn't hurt to list them, but just don't want OP to get her hopes up for schools that still have dozens of IB students waiting.

there's no limit to the number of post lottery applications you can make. you can literally list every school that offers PK. Obviously only list the ones you'd actually be willing to drive to, and realize that for some of them you'll be number 435 or something on the list, but there is no harm or cost to applying.

Also check into the community based options--private preschools that DC pays for. You can see a list on the MSDC website but each school runs their own wait list so you need to call them.

No they only have to take people who apply in the original lottery. And it's not all Title I schools. Just this list.


Early Action Pre-Kindergarten (PK) guarantees access to all in-boundary families in preschool (PK3) and prekindergarten (PK4) at select DCPS schools. To secure an Early Action PK seat, in-boundary families must submit a My School DC lottery application online to their DCPS in-boundary school by the PK3-8 deadline. Eligible families who submit a My School DC application by the deadline are guaranteed an Early Action PK match if they are not matched to any other higher-ranked school.
