OP, also given the circumstances, since your family has been displaced by a natural disaster, there is guidance for both DCPS and Charters around this sort of thing. I believe that when Katrina happened there were a number of students that were allowed to enroll in schools well after the deadlines with special circumstances. Albeit My School DC did not exist then, but it cannot hurt to seek out the information.

In th3 2021 Enrollment Handbook for DCPS for last year it mentions contacting the Student Supports Team

Sojourner Truth if you're into Montessori
DCI if your child speaks French or Chinese or is willing to start in the language classes offered for beginners.


I would suggest you also consider Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Takoma Park, Maryland.


Bad choices for an 8th grader who would need a HS which only one has worth attending which is Cap City.

I assume, since OP posted in the DCPS/PCS forum, that they’re specifically interested in DC. OP—is that right? If not, you might want to post in the MD or VA boards to get insight about those areas, as well.
