The instructions for cleaning say something like surface clean. I took a toothbrush and clean with Dawn and it helped significantly.

I’ve washed my kids’ backpacks warm in the washing machine countless times. With bleach. They still look fine. LL Bean.

I always wash my kids backpacks in the washer and line dry a few times a year - winter break, end of the school year and then after camp before school starts. All still going strong - they have Lands End and Jansport bags.

They go through fine. I do the lunchboxes too. Keeps them looking nice and not grimy.

This. You could spot clean with Fels Naphtha or liquid detergent and a scrub brush. I’ve never had any issues washing a PBK backpack or lunchbox, and we have had quite a few of them.

Never washed a backpack in my life. Somehow we all survived.

You remind me of my friend who throws away and replaces all bed pillows every few months.

+1 would never waste my time washing a backpack.

Do your kids never put theirs on the ground or the slushy floor of the bus? And never spill in/on it? Do you just throw them away? I’m genuinely fascinated because my kids’ backpacks look grubby by the end of the school year even without a dramatic spill or mud incident.

Not sure? I have girls and their backpacks stay clean-looking for years. They outgrow the style/pattern long before the bag looks dirty.

Ha! I do that too! Seriously, at least every 6 months. I should meet your friend.

That is bizarre! I wash out backpacks AND our pillows.

Totally agree. I wash our LL Bean packs a few times a year and lunch boxes more often. They come out fine.
